For those in the US looking to buy, do it before Saturday

For those who have not noticed, Trump has decided Americans must pay more tax on everything they buy manufactured outside of the US.

Whatever your politics, the reality is; that you will pay more.

Do not spam this topic with pro or anti-Trump, this is only about the financial hit to Americans that will be subject to the tax.

What does that mean for your impending printer purchase and anything else from Bambu Lab?

If you can buy it before Saturday, it will be cheaper.

Bambu Lab did increase the price of their products sold to residents of the US when Trump introduced the last tariffs, what else could they do?

I doubt they will be able to absorb the new tariffs, thus all prices will increase.

If you were putting off a purchase, you should investigate how that will affect you and determine if buying it before the end of Friday will save you money in the long run.

Those holding off purchasing the new flagship will see the greatest increase because tariffs are percentage-based and the most expensive product will have the biggest monetary increase.

Important

For those who asked a variation of this question last time…

I live in Europe, how will the Trump tariffs affect my future purchase from Bambu Lab?

In short: There shouldn’t be any changes as what Trump does to America has no direct relationship to how much you are charged if you live outside of America.

I doubt they will be able willing to absorb the new tariffs

Will definitely stock up!

For anyone wondering, the tariffs are going from 20% to 54%.

Yeah, I don’t even know that they could absorb a 50% tariff and still be profitable even if they for some reason wanted to.

Yeah, didn’t realize it was that high

From 10%, the U.K. (my land) managed to get that rate.

I didn’t wish to presume and then someone said I was wrong, so, I left it in their hands.

On reddit/bluesky i can see alot price hike. Filament from £10 > £12-15 and €20>25.

All because of :tangerine:tax.

There are no financial or tariff-based reasons that prices outside the US should change.

Profiteering based on the hope people do not know better is different.

For those that still don’t understand tariffs, it’s the PURCHASER that pays the tariff NOT the MANUFACTURER. So Bambu Labs only takes a hit in reduced sales by people not being able to afford the higher prices

No, the importer, in this case the US entity of Bambu has to pay the tariffs. They then usually raise the prices to retain the same profit marigns.

That is a distinction without a difference.

The consumer pays, businesses are not charities and these tariffs are too high to absorb by companies.

In the short term, tariffs hurt us as consumers because companies typically raise prices to offset the increased cost of importing goods. However, these tariffs incentivize companies to establish manufacturing hubs within the U.S. to avoid import duties. This is a long term strategy that should pay off in the future for us in the states…

Filament manufactured in the US is still more expensive then Bambu filament currently is. And it hurts us in the long turn too, since all the companies raise their prices at the same time it just creates artificial inflation, the government profits while the average consumer just pays more. There’s no way to justify a 50% tariff on all goods, that’s just ridiculous.

BTW filament prices will probably go up, currently the tariffs only apply to purchases above $800. On May 2nd, the tariffs will apply to parcels under $800 too.

Exactly, the filament prices will go up allowing the US markets to compete better and sell domestically. Eventually all filament will be in the 20+ range and you will be better off buying domestically if your a US citizen. This promotes domestic competition which we havent had in 60+ years. I am not purchasing bambu products for any mass manufacturing, this is my hobby. Most people will complain but I wont mind the markup when it comes.

So now the consumer just pays 60% more for filament and you’re happy with that?

I am not arguing economics with you. I am a US citizen and patriotic. I will be greatful when I can purchase domestically when filament abroad is marked up to the same value of filament sold in the US. Like I said, this is my hobby, if international filament gets marked up 60% I will be stocking up on Protopasta and buying domestically.

One of the biggest costs of a product is labour, so to be competitive with overseas products even with tariffs your wages will need to drop to those of a chinese worker or a robot. There are other flow on effects but as the OP asked I’m going to try stick to the subject. Patriotism doesn’t pay the bills.

We (uk) have a list of 400+ american products we may place reciprocal tarriffs on , china have added another 34% to american imports , $1.7 trillion already wiped of the dow + most american products need to be modified for health and saftey reasons in europe, all president musk is doing is taking away an already over taxed americans choice to purchase better cheaper goods , take insulin as another example , cheaper in canada hence the steady stream of tourist going to buy it.

just a query how many tesla parts are imported to teslas shangai mega factory
