It’s been way too long since I’ve had the chance to get back here, and even longer since I’ve worked on any new designs. But here’s what I’ve been up to lately!

For the past few years, I’ve been making theses wooden controller stands.

I’ve wanted to create a 3D-printed version for MakerWorld for quite a while but wanted to utilise the power of 3D printing and user customisation, so I came up with a design for the stands that have a standard core with a removable decorative sleeve, so people can swap them out for different colours or styles when there taste changes.

So far, I’ve created a few sleeve designs that I’ll be uploading soon:

Standard

Slats

Kumiko (obviously I had to)

Trifecta

I thought it might be cool to see what other people come up with so I’ve set the standard sleeve itself to allow remixes. Feel free to make it your own if you are interested in that sort of thing.

Once I’ve uploaded a few more sleeve designs to get the ball rolling, I’ll be jumping back on to my modular desk shelf / monitor riser project. Here’s a little peak (even if it will change a fair amount from this design!

Knew It would only be a matter of time…

These are excellent.

@MalcTheOracle, Thank you!

I finally got the first bunch of design in the desk range done! It’s changed quite a lot since my original idea!

It was quite the monster of a project with all the modelling, printing, photographing and posting on MakerWorld. I won’t be doing this many all at once again!

The project definitely grew legs with all the other accessories I came up with! I have quite a long list for what to work on next. But I think I will start with a clock for the up coming contest in the same style.

Any one got any other ideas for accessories to add?

Here’s my latest design deep dive—an update to my original lamp series! All future shades in this collection will be designed to interlock with the same base, so people can easily swap them out as new ones get released. A few are still in the works, but I’m excited to share what I’ve got so far.

I’ve always loved the balance of form and function in lamp design, not to mention the playing with light and shadows.

Lately, I’ve been experimenting with different techniques like vase mode for diffusers and working with thin walls. Has anyone come across any cool approaches to 3D printed lamps? Would love to hear your recommendations!

Looking for some help with a print profile (or design) issue on my latest lamp project.

I’m having trouble getting the shade to print cleanly. Using fairly standard settings, I’m getting a visible line where the 45° chamfer begins, as shown in the photos below.

Vase mode doesn’t really work due to the shape so it’s printed with a 0.5 wall thickness.

I’ve also experimented with seam position, thinking it might be causing artifacts around the corners. Unfortunately, switching to a random seam made things worse.

Any tips on either adjusting the print settings or tweaking the design would be much appreciated!

In my experience I would look at the speed of those outer walls. Make sure they are all the same speed to ensure the same finish.

I don’t like random seams, it looks like a bunch of blemishes. So unless you are doing something like “fuzzy skin” avoid it.

Thanks for your response ! Ah I thought there might be something like that but I can’t find the feature. Do you know what the setting is called?

After you slice the model, choose “Speed” for Color Scheme.

This will show you what speeds are being used currently.

Find the lowest speed being used for the outer walls of the model. Then go to the configurations on the left, the Speed tab, and set “Outer wall” to that slowest speed.

This should ensure that all the outer walls are printed at the same speed and should look the same.

Note: This will increase print time.

it’s a great tools for big flat surface
each big step of parameter can drive to totally different effect, and artistic object are the best one to use it

My favorite fuzzy skin settings are .3mm/.3mm Almost makes a pistol grip texture at those rates.
