I’m new to 3D printing, just got my first printer a couple weeks ago. I have some previous experience with 3D modeling software but it’s been a while since using any Autodesk software. I designed a couple extremely simple test objects just to get my feet wet and they printed fine. I just tried printing the first useful and more complex model I designed in Fusion 360.
This model is printed in several different pieces/parts and most of them are not positioned on the build plate but rather raised up and resting on little nubs or coils. The result is an absolutely horrendous bottom surface finish. Also, Bambu studio is adding huge brims to everything. In some cases it makes sense, several of the parts are relatively tall and skinny so a brim could make sense, but there are some parts that should absolutely not need a brim. I know Bambu studio has an auto orient fuction but for this model that causes everything to print on the diagonal and several of the parts are threaded screws/bolts so I want them to print vertically. I oriented the parts in Fusion 360 the way I want them to print before exporting. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
I designed the model in Fusion 360, exported as .step then imported .step into Bambu studio. I also exported same model as .stl and imported that but when slicing them both, the .step file was noticeably more detailed when visually inspecting it in the preview window of Bambu Studio. Another thing that’s interesting is that when importing the .step file there were a ton of errors (mostly non manifold edges) and I used the “fix model” function in Bambu studio. When Importing the same model as .stl, none of those problems came up, but in any case the sliced .stl file still had the overly excessive brims and the same parts raised off the surface of the build plate.
