Fusion 360 sketch issues, please help!

I have a new question for you guys… I am trying to make a coaster for a school event. I put an svg sketch on the surface of the coaster. I wish it would automatically register in the slicer, but it wont. I tried to extrude the complex logo, but it wont work. Images are attached. As you can see, the logo is locked. I could do this in tinker cad almost instantly… but how would I do this in Fusion to get it flush?

An imported SVG is usually locked. You can select all the vectors and then click the ‘fix’ constraint to unlock them so they can be moved. One thing to always check is that the sketch is orthogonal to one of the XYZ planes. If you use the surface of an object this may not be the case…

Would you be able to find a screenshot of this process?

I could take some screenshots and post them tomorrow. I am in the Eastern US timezone so you’ll have to wait. However, if you search on importing SVG into Fusion Sketch, I’m sure you’ll find this advice.

If you still want the screenshots, let me know. If you export your Fusion file as an .f3d file and upload it, I can look at it and fix it.

Are you sure it’s a flush problem? Normally, fusion 360 inserts the svg perfectly aligned. Either you clicked wrong or, what is also possible, you didn’t select everything. To me, it looks more like not everything was selected or the svg had gaps.

The short video actually sums it all up: You just have to make sure that everything is selected and that your SVG is really clean.


Did you create the SVG yourself or use an online converter?

It may be that you have to redraw it yourself because the converter did it incorrectly. I’m almost certain that your svg is simply messy. Probably didn’t select the areas properly because it wasn’t possible, as the template was so messy.

Take a look at all the errors, that’s not a “flush” error, that’s a “messy” error.

I used an online png to svg converter. Any recommendations on a good one?

Manually in Inkscape is the best way. But takes more time.

For straight up conversions, Adobe express is the best free one.

Almost all of them have a slight noise issue, but Adobe will do higher resolutions. I found giving it a “.png” file always produces the best result.

The only downside to the Adobe one is that you have to create an account.

I agree 100%. Adobe express is one of the best.

It is important that you clean up the png beforehand: only pure black and white, no grayscale. Please check that, it’s important. Remove any imperfections. The groundwork is extremely important.

  • If you throw trash in, trash will come out.
  • If you throw good quality in, you’ll get good quality out.

That’s probably why you had problems the first time you tried. The logo must be perfectly black and white, with no scattered pixels, no garbage, no grayscale, no colors.

In the end, there should only be black and white pixels, clearly visible. If necessary, scale up the image beforehand - and only when that is done, transfer it to the converter.

It would be easier to trace over the image than to clean up the one you have. The text can be aligned to a curve using Fusion’s text command, and the logos are simple enough to trace without the need for a lot of skill. You only need to trace half and then mirror it to complete the image.

This is the Special Olympics logo, a much higher quality image can be found. Try Wikimedia Commons, they have a collection of high quality logos in .SVG format.

Having your .f3d file would be better, but I’ll see what I can do.

It seems from the other posts that the real problem is the quality of your SVG file, not positioning it as you originally thought. Work on that.

However, note that there are very strict guidelines on where and how you can use it. The ai form seems the most useful to convert to svg without errors.

After you have the SVG, you import it into a Fusion Sketch: (By the way, import with a scale factor of 3.772958333… since Autodesk still can’t figure out SVG scaling).

You can see the vectors are Green which means they’re fixed.

Select all the vectors and click on the Fix constraint (Lock symbol )

Then I added a point in the exact center of the vectors so I could move it to the center of my disk body.

I set the target position to 0,0 (Z=5mm is the top of the disk)

I then extruded the letters, but, rather than extruding the letters, it’s MUCH easier to cut away the background into the previously created disk.

Here is the logo I am trying to use… it is red and white, do I absolutely need to turn it into Black and White?

Is there a place where I type this scale in?

However, I can tell you right away that you will need a 0.2 nozzle to print this reasonably well.

When you import it into your sketch the dialog has a scale factor input box. It is normally set to 1.0

You can also select the vectors after the fact and use Modify→Sketch Scale

Make sure all the vectors are selected or you will get very weird results.
