Fusion Update / Extrude into Components MIA

Just tried out the new update to Fusion and if you use components there is a big change.

Just a heads-up. I’m working out how to keep things the way I tend to do them with components on complex multipart extrusions. It turns them into a single entity. Haven’t explored much but now the option to extrude into a component seems to be gone. Maybe extrude into a body has extra features now to compensate. Don’t know but hope there is a way.

Maybe it’s still there under some other name (and not in the extrude menu) but haven’t found it yet. For now I can extrude into new bodies on the simple stuff. Complex stuff is a lost cause now though until a workaround is discovered. It was handy to extrude lots of little bits at the same time into a single entity.

Just wanted to give a heads-up if anyone had critical projects using components.

I’ll need to spend more time studying the Fusion help pages and working with Fusion, but my initial understanding is that choosing Hybrid design keeps the old workflow. In Hybrid Mode, you can still extrude a component.

You can also change design types in the Browser>Document Settings.

You can select a default design type in Preferences (click your avatar in the upper right corner), but there is still an extra button to click to start a new design. I hope they skip the selection dialog if you have set a preference.

Even with the default Parts design mode, all my old designs open in Hybrid design mode.

Nice! I’m only intermediate I think in Fusion skills so had to do some minor stuff manually but was totally unaware of the hybrid mode. Thank you for that!

This update got my doubting myself earlier today, they should consider rebranding to ConFusion…

Thanks for the tip to set a default in preferences.
And I found this on the forums today:

“You can also use Ctrl + N to create a new document without showing the dialog at all.“
