I understand that there has been quite the kerfuffle over the upcoming firmware that will ultimately trickle down to all models (X → P → A).
I currently run Linux only on my work and home PCs. Will the newly proposed Bambu Connect be supported directly under Linux as a Flatpak app? Or is it LAN only for me moving forward?
Which brings up another question, why have a second app altogether, Bambu? Why not roll it all into Bambu Studio?

That’s a very good question…However, I doubt you’ll get your answer, and if you will get one (eventually), it might (very well) not (really) answer your question.
My understanding is that it is “rolled” into Bambu Studio. You only need to use Bambu connect if you are using a 3rd party slicer.
If you use Bambu Studio to slice and send prints to your printer you won’t notice any difference in work flow.
Not according to the comments made on this forum by some who have already tested, and reported on, the new Connect stuff.
This is not related to MakerWorld and should be in a more appropriate section. For example, Bambu Lab X1C.

For windows, it is rolled into Bambu Studio, you only need the connect app for non-Studio applications. The problem is that there is no turned on by default way in Linux for a .so to securely authenticate it’s caller. And they can’t statically link the comm library into Studio since that would make it open source. So you’ll probably have to run connect on linux also.
This goes against one of my Golden rules:
If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it AND if it’s fixed, don’t break it.
Moving forward should not feel so backwards!
