Good evening everyone.
I am slicing Christmas ball ornament models and want the first layer to be fully attached to the brim. I have disabled elephant foot compensation and set the Brim-object gap parameter to 0. However, I still end up with a gap.
The only thing seems to make any difference is changing the first layer line width from 0.5mm to 0.45mm — then it improves.
So, my main question is: Is there a way to ensure the brim is connected to the model without adjusting the initial layer line width?
For context:
- I’m using Tree (Slim) supports.
- I’ve already tried using “Brim Ears,” but it didn’t affect the slicing result.
Could you please advise what to do?
Thanks in advance!
A brim serves a specific purpose, part of the design is the ability remove it from the model, thus, the gap.
If you need a cylinder at the bottom of the model, you could add a primitive, size and move it as required.
- Swap to the prepare tab
- Select the model
- Right-click the selected model
- Select “Add Primitive”
- Choose Cylinder
- Select the cylinder if it wasn’t selected automatically
- Select the Resize tool from the toolbar
- Change the size to your required dimensions
- Close the tool
- Select the move tool from the toolbar
- Change the location and move it to the bottom of your model
You can now preview to make sure everything is located in the correctly. Adjust if not.
Print.
Because this is a standard shape, it will be part of your source model and no gap.
