Gaps in colour when using multi colour on first layers H2C

Anyone have any suggestions for this?- Doesnt happen with my A1s but does with the H2C, if I am doing dual colours on the base layer it is almost as if the nozzle is too high and not getting enough squish, any suggestions appreciated.

I’m sure many people here want to help you, but there is so much information missing:

  • Please post a few photos and, if possible, a link to the 3D model or the 3mf file.
  • Please describe whether this only happens with this 3D model or also with other prints.
  • While you’re at it, it wouldn’t hurt to mention which filament you’re using.
  • Have you tried anything yourself yet? Calibrated? Update? Done a test print? What have you tried so far?

Holes in this avocado for example, now this doesn’t happen on my A1 printer so it is surprising that it happens on the H2C - Using identical filament profile settings, filament is dry, plate is new. I can see where the holes are going to be in the slicer, but as I say, it doesn’t happen on the A1, which means the height may be slightly too high.

This shouldn’t happen if the printer is calibrated. Especially if you have auto bed leveling enabled. You can try the solution described in the wiki, which includes pictures showing what to do if you get a bad first layer. - Additionally calibrate the filament.

Perhaps you could describe in more detail what it looks like with photos. If the slicer is already showing you the error, that should be a clear warning sign. Is this model also on MakerWorld?

Photo has been attached to the reply, printer is fully calibrated, as I say using the same filament settings, its kind of frustrating, I have been working with Bambu printers since 2023 so I have quite a lot of knowledge around them, I do feel this is a printer issue especially if the A1 is fine. I think this will be fixed in the firmware but in the meantime, down goes the Z height to see if that helps.

I’m talking about photos of the slicer; the other questions haven’t been answered yet either. I’m really trying to help you. But anyway, you’ve already found the solution and are adjusting the Z height? Go for it. I won’t hold you back. Let us know how it went. :+1:

Did you find a solution to this? I also have had this issue since getting my H2C back in Nov. It mainly appears for me with Matte filament. Everything has been calibrated and if I print a full sheet on the bed it is great but anything around detail will show those holes. I will use the same settings on the P1S and no issue.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the K Factor setting for the filament I was using. I ran the dynamic flow calibration from Bambu Studio to get the proper K Factor for the filament and saved it to the printer. Whenever I load that particular filament/color, I select the filament profile from the edit screen on the printer. It was only happening with one color. The rest of that brand/type filament I use doesn’t have the problem.

your issue might be caused by something else but if you haven’t tried the process I describe above, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.

Not really, I find if you change the walls / use arachne and mess about with the wall settings you can usually fix most of it, you can see in the slicer the areas which cause an issue, also you can try rotating it slightly. I do find on all of my A1 & P1 that this isn’t really an issue, only with the H2C - I think they will figure it out at some point.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to do some more edits to my Bambu Matte configuration. This seems to be an issue across the H series as I have seen others with the H2D and H2S also having the same issues

Oh nice - I am hochhackig this for my problem :joy: I can confirm that this is an issue. Not something serious, but an issue- I only see this with multiple colors and a very thin layer.

I printed the following “PlayStation Lamp” to show off the vortek system to a friend. Upon removing it from the bed I already broke it a bit as the colors have not been properly fused together. Holding it against the light- you even see tiny cracks/holes in it.

Again this is not an issue with solid prints - just thin layer issues.

I suggest you open a support ticket. This print looks like crap, but it shouldn’t on a printer that is this expensive.

I have a very similar problem on H2D, on the single color prints. Honestly being exhausted with all the combinations of flow ratio + PA that I tested to fix this :wink: Today, support decided to send me the nozzle eddy current sensors to try and replace, we’ll see how it goes.

Hi, I had a very similar problem, and I was unable to fix it completely, no matter how many options I tried. Did you find a solution or open a support ticket? I'm planning to open a support ticket for the next lamp to find a solution; it's a €3,000 printer and it's having these kinds of problems.

I didn’t try multiple colors on my first layers, but I seem to have slight underextrusion in general.

Here is a print with Bambu Lab PLA Matte Mandarin Orange. As you can see I have some gaps in the top layer with the default Bambu PLA Matte profile. I also have the same with some Esun Matte PLA.

When I run a flow rate calibration, I usually end up with 1.025-1.04 for the flowrate for these filaments and that also fixed the stripes in the first and top layer. The Bambu Lab Matte PLA profile has 1 for flowrate. On my X1C is not an issue and flowrate is even 0.98 there on the stock profiles and the stock profiles are perfect.

Here is a calibration print where I started from 1.05 flowrate (fine calibration) -5 ends up to 0,9975 which is about the same as stock. You can see that’s cleary not enough. -1 (1,0395) hides the lines nicely, but it might be just too much and I think -2 (1,029) is the sweetspot (not on the picture).

Here is the first layer. The one with the gaps is the stock profile. And the nice one is the calibrated flowrate 1,0395, but I might drop it to 1.03.

I have done a print with PLA basic and there it’s almost the same. Maybe slighly better, but still underextruded. Although I did yesterday a print with the 0.6mm nozzle and that’s perfect.
I feel like the machine underextrudes slightly in general at least with the 0.4mm nozzle. I would expect that at least the Bambu filament profiles would be spot on like on the X1C, but that not the case.
I haven’t tried a 0.2 or 0.8mm nozzle.

And other than that, the printer makes beautiful prints. The wall are cleaner than on my X1C regarding VFA’s. But it’s not right that there is a consistent under extrusion. I’m thinking of opening a ticket at Bambu.

I checked my PTFE lines and made sure they are not too short or too long. When I watch my printer, I see the buffer is being pushed in time so there is no binding or something like that.

I also did a PA calibration for the filaments I have used so far. And I also compared my own calibrations to the auto calibration and the different I usually within 0.004 for the K factor. So it seems to be quite accurate.

Is there actually an e-step test that you can run for the extruder? I would like see if 100mm of extrusion is really 100mm. I feel like something is off and if I could increase the extrusion for the printer with 3-4%, all the profiles would be perfect.

In any case, what appears to have worked reasonably well so far to minimize the gaps was:

  1. Monotonic infill pattern instead of rectilinear.
  2. Infill/wall overlap above 50% (instead of default 15%)
  3. Bumping top surface flow rate by a few percent.

Not that I recall. You can try printing the test model posted here (the flat, white one with multiple holes): Gaps in prints · Issue #9768 · bambulab/BambuStudio · GitHub with the stock profile and compare it with the modified profile settings (everything monotonic, wall overlap 50-60%, top flow ratio multiplier 1.02-1.05) - you should see the improvement.
