General Machine Stability

I cannot stress how important it is to keep an A-1 stable while printing. The “vibration compensation” can only do so much…

Surprisingly the table or other stand does not have to be particularly “tight.”

Mine is on an antique craftsman oak buffet every glue joint of which (save the doors that I’ve re-glued) is loose. With only moderate hand pressure you can have the thing rocking on its leg casters on a thickly carpeted floor. I truly considered disassembling the thing before using it for this purpose.

I happened to have a 24" x 24" x 1" thick slab of unpolished (still very rough) granite that I first laid on new microfiber towels.

The full vibration compensation ran more quietly and with less resonance then it’s previous location simply on top of a very strong two-pedestal table.

Concrete air conditional pads of the same size are available and significantly cheaper than a slab of granite. Their thickness (generally 2") makes them very heavy.
