Getting power inside the printer

With so many people wanting more light power inside their P1S I found an awful lot of possible solutions.
But they all involve getting wires inside, messing with things…

Found an old phone in one of my boxes and in it a battery with QI charging coil.
Quite common on genuine batteries but those charging coils are available for dirt cheap online.
Funny enough placing a wireless charger on the outside wall of my P1S make it’s charging light come on when I added the battery on the inside…
Battery long dead, so I carefully removed the coil and connector on the battery.
5V 10W LED light connected to it and the light goes on bright when placed on the charger…

Might still not be ideal but a LED strip with remote works the same as a plain one and you won’t have to mess around with the build in USB port or wiring of the machine.

Some supporting photos and (eventually) a video would be nice. A detailed explanation of what you did, including the BOM, would add a touch of more appeal .

Now I did. Somehow I missed it in my daily browsing, which is a bit strange, given that I’m spending time Printables every other day. Thx for pointing it out.

That project has a certain appeal to the gadget-geek side of my personality. But then I look at the cost of the wireless components, the time to gather, print, and assemble the parts, and I think maybe a simple hole would be a quicker, cheaper, more reliable, and more efficient solution to get power inside.

What about the free 5V USB port inside the printer?

I ordered several of each component and ended up just ditching it. There’s no quality control to speak of and it’s difficult to get one to be consistant in power delivery.

Reluctantly I put a small hole in the backside right corner. The bento hides it. On the back plate I used a print to insert a jack for 24v barrel connector that’s switched.

Looks neat, I got over putting holes in the printer, and now I don’t have to fuss with it.

For other power (lights) I have a 24v tap that comes off the buffer that is switched. I can tap into that for anything I need. Over a year with no issues. Also have a USB tap that can go in it’s place if I wanted.

Its definitely a nerd/tinkerer project. Looks fun, but like most of these projects, Its not always cost effective. I see it like one of bambu’s kits. Overpriced but kinda fun. Like model building, printing decorative stuff or toys.

I found the biggest issue being that it’s needs to be screwed into the bottom of the unit. Double sided tape doesn’t cut it. I figured if I’d be willing to drive a screw into the bottom I would just a soon put one in the back.

The other issue was that I couldn’t get good airflow no matter what I tried. Almost impossible to get reliable 12v for the lower spec fans, and you could forget about 24v from the bump converter. My opinion is that with 12v fans it’s not worth even doing. Just doesn’t move air.

Good points. Kinda stupid if you still need screw holes.

You don’t NEED to. You do if you’re OCD but the original solution is just as good.

You can have a switch on the side of the Bento, there’s plenty of mods to do that, and run the wire along the bottom of the interior to where the back Z screw is.

Once in there you have 2 options. One is to run it to the printers power, or just feed it under the back panel to your own power source.

The only visible wires are for the maybe 7-8 inches from the Bento to the slot for the Z. Little electrical tape (not a great option) or cloth harness tape (better looking) will hide it.

I’ve used that stuff for wiring harnesses or wire looms and it’s better than electrical tape, looks better, little easier to work with, and depending on where you get it has better adhiesive.

The best option is to simply ignore it. It’s not that intrusive. If you’re OCD then maybe it is, ask me how I know.
