Giving someone’s creation 1-star? Have the decency to explain why

I absolutely love the 3D printing community; people putting in their time, effort, and money to design something awesome AND THEN GIVE IT AWAY FOR FREE. There’s real joy in finding a clever print, watching it come to life layer by layer, and benefiting from someone’s creativity.

I joined this community about six months ago, and it’s become a genuine hobby for me. I’ve shared a few of my own designs, one of which even got featured on MakerWorld recently. That wasn’t the goal, though; my goal has always been to make something useful, polish it, and share it to help others.

But here’s what frustrates me: people who contribute nothing, yet drop 1-star ratings with zero explanation on free designs. That kind of feedback helps no one. If you’re going to criticize someone’s hard work, something they poured many hours into and shared at no cost to you, the least you can do is say why.

Constructive criticism builds this community. Thoughtless ratings tear it down.

Don’t overthink it, every second you spend thinking is a second of wasted time. Don’t react, just report it. Bambu will delete it within a few days. Bad reviews will be deleted 99% of the time because users do not describe the problem.

What’s the correct “Reason for reporting” in this case and how does it apply?

Misinformation

Failure to provide a reason fails to assist any user or the designer.

I made attempts to seek a reason.

Reasons are required for 3 stars or lower and there were processes put in place to enforce this, but occasionally one gets through.

Click on the rating, the three dots, and select report. Reason: Misinformation.

Then you write something like:

‘'Bad review without giving reasons nor a photo. I would be happy to help the user, but this is not possible due to a lack of information."

I’ll pop a bottle of champers when Makerworld introduces a requirement for a photo for a one-to-two-star rating.

Hello, and thanks for raising this. We understand that receiving a 1-star rating without any explanation is frustrating and not helpful to creators or other users.

We will continue to identify and remove malicious or invalid ratings. In addition, we are evaluating a change that would require a brief explanation for low ratings (e.g., 1–2 stars). Thank you for helping us improve the experience for everyone.

I’m glad I came a crossed this post. I have one of my no to popular MODELS that only had one rating and it was a three star. I politely asked what the problem was and received no reply. I have printed several for family and friends and never had a problem so I was curious to get a reply.
I reported it using RetroSharky’s text and MW took the rating down.

It’s the reason I dislike most repositories. They always end up pitting people against each other rather than fostering community. The downloads are the only important statistic, and if people don’t like something they can design their own.
