Glitches between two colors

Multicolored piece, I get weird glitches along the vertical separation between two colors on the inward corners. I haven’t seen this behavior on outward edges. The weird thing is that the distribution of the two types of layers doesn’t seem to follow a pattern; it appears random. I hope you understand my attempt at an explanation. :laughing:





Hi, how are the colors applied? Painted, or are those separate model parts with filament applied to them directly?

I tried both, at first painted in Bambu Studio (fill color with edge detection), then in the CAD software, I cut each cords to import composed object with multi parts. Same result.

When you import the multi-part object into Studio, are you sure it is not applying surface painting to it? Studio v2.5 has a nasty habit of painting objects “behind your back” so to speak. If there’s a paint bucket icon in the object list, that means paint is being applied and whatever filament you assign to that part has no effect. (Paint can be removed by clicking that bucket and then the “remove all painting” button.)

That might not be the issue of course, just checking because that keeps tripping people up. Otherwise I’m not sure what else to suggest… perhaps someone else knows offhand, or you could post your project (or example).

Thank you, it works, if I don’t use the paint function, I import a composed object and manually assign a filament to each parts instead of painting them.

Cool, glad that worked. I’ve noticed what you describe with the painting tools, where they have trouble separating surfaces that don’t have sharp edges. Probably since they work on a mesh, not the original solids. Converting to mesh with a higher resolution may help, but IDK. Those jaggy edges are actually barely noticeable in the print itself (maybe even add a little strength), but they also bothered me in the slicer preview.

To follow up on the great answer from @MaxThreeD and this is only supplemental information…

Painting is for ornament style models where colour is to add vibrance without necessary requirements of accuracy.

If you have the skills (you do), always design the model in parts to attribute the colour. This way (as was explained and you experienced) the colour you want only touches the intended part.

Painting makes the exterior surface the chosen colour, but it uses depth to make the colour visible (more depth to guarantee the surface will be seen) and on triangles (all models are lots of triangles) it thinks are related, thus is a best guess that often isn’t as clean in joins as you would hope.

Rule: if you can design colour, design it, if you can’t, you paint it and hope for the best.

Agreed, I much prefer to design the individual color/material parts in CAD, and add any interlocks there if needed. Only time I had to paint a model is when an STL mesh was all I had to work with (and a low-res one at that). It is possible to paint a whole part (not just the surface) using the 3D blob tool (I wanted to make whole bits from translucent colors, for example), but… not ideal.

PLUS if you’re iterating a design, it’s all too easy to loose the painting altogether. Total waste of time in that case.
