there are a bunch of ……@base.json files. These text files contain the default information for all filament profiles. So for example there is a “Bambu PLA Basic @base.json” file in there that is used for all PLA profiles. You can edit this file, change the “filament_cost,” and all Bambu PLA filaments will reflect the new price. Very useful as you’ll never need to save a custom profile and switch to it EVERY time you sync with the AMS or load an online model.
Note: when editing these files, it’s probably best to do so when Bambu Studio is closed.
I suppose it may get overwritten at some point with an update, but it’s worth just fixing it again if it does…
Yeah, but I created a shortcut for the profile on my desktop so I literally just have to open that to change the price back so it’s very simple. I prefer this as it will propagate over all uses of the filament for all colors and print profiles.
If the PLA on your shelf cost $14 a spool, and you buy more on sale at $10, what price do you use when you edit filament_cost in the base .json?
I have many different filaments, bought at different times, at different prices. My filaments are all already calibrated with their own presets, so adding the correct purchase price is simple and helps make my material cost estimates accurate.
Using one cost for all filaments of a type means some are priced incorrectly, creating inaccurate estimates and defeating the purpose of editing the cost.
I guess it helps that live a more simple life and 100% of the filaments I use now-a-days are bambu. can’t help it i love the rfid tags, and the reusable spools. so 100% of my spools were $15 anyways… regardless, for me it’s just an estimation more for curiosity than any kind of financial reasoning. the default is $20 which is too high so that’s the only reason i change it…
anyone who is the type that buys many different brands with many different prices, sure you’re just going to use profiles for each one with their own price settings. for me just a single bambu profile is good enough…
