I’ve found that a brass brush does a great job of cleaning it up.

Brass brush on the build plate?
No, on the bottom of the part.

I tried a brass brush on the part. Not much luck.
I have 3 new pei plates and have tested them all now. 1 is fine, gives the same shininess that the black pei and my other gold pei plates. 1 is just awful, and the other is in between. I’m going to see if I can open a support case for them.
