I just installed the E3D High Flow on my X1C. in downloaded the custom printer/filament profiles per the product page, ran both flow calibrations, and a full printer calibration.
When I did the calibrations it sounded fine but since then it has a loud nasty grind on anything after the first layer.
Any suggestions?
The first layer usually prints slower. My guess is that the profile is trying to push the nozzle too fast. Does the noise go away when you print in silent mode?
Yes it does. I had not tried that. I thought using the HF nozzle was supposed to let me print faster, but I get the grinding at all but the silent speed.
It may let you print faster but you might also have to up the nozzle temp to print at that speed. It should be also noted that not all filament can be printed fast.
I am just using standard Bambu PLAs that I am able to run at high speeds on the H2D and A1. I have upped the temp from 220 to 240 to see what happens. Is there anything else I should do, and if that a big enough difference in temp?
What is your max flowrate set at, and what specific filament vendor/material are you using?
Run a max flowrate calibration. It will gradually increase flowrate in the model, and you will hopefully be able to visually see where defects begin to be introduced as well as maybe where it fails to send it completely. Find where your defects start, reduce by 10-20%, and that should serve you well
I ran the 2 flow calibrations available in Bambu Studio and the Flow Ratio was auto calibrated to .98. I am using Bambu PLA Basic and Bambu PLA Matte.
If there is a different test you are referring to then I am unfamiliar with it. I have not had this issue with my 2 other printers so this is new territory for me.

Filament prime Volume 45mm^3
Max volumetric speed 29 mm^3/s
Ramming volumetric speed -1 mm^3/s
29mm^3 at 0.4 is objectively very fast. You may be outpacing your filament. Make sure your spaghetti is up to the task, and as Jon mentioned, adding more heat can coax it to behave better. If its only spending 2 seconds in the hotend, it doesn’t have much time to cook/degrade lol
