I’m struggling though to see how these posts (including my own) relate to “Growing Concerns About Bambu Lab’s Direction…” I can see why most of the other sites I frequent have strict rules concerning political content.

We got off topic. I don’t think getting derailed is always bad, but this particular line of conversation has all the potential of getting a lot worse. Oddly enough I feel like we can almost loop back, when it comes to discussing rights and obligations. Unfortunately while I feel there is a lot of merit to the idea that companies have obligations to us as consumers and we there right to have some expectations, we know that it is a fantasy not a reality. Even when countries try to enforce rules and laws most companies can find a way around that. One hopes that a product we enjoy can come from a company that freely chooses to care, but that is getting more and more rare.

The entire reason for corporations to exist is to maximize the returns of it’s investors. The consumers and the product they consume are a means to that end. No matter how altruistic a company starts off as, unless it’s a NPO it will eventually turn to the dark side to appease the board.
I so want to return to being able to naively believe that most people are good and most companies are honest and what to make a good product. I miss those happy and blissfully ignorant days. I have even less money now, and can’t help but know it isn’t going to get better. At least I get to live though someone having a trillion dollars. Who would have thought I would get to live to see a whole pile of people make Scrooge McDuck and Smaug the dragon look charitable paupers.

The issue at hand is if Bambu Lab, through MakerWorld, should allow the printing of lethal weapons. Currently there are several jurisdictions considering legislation that would require the suppression of files that allow a 3D printer to create guns. Including the EU, New York, California, Washington state, and Colorado. Bambu already restricts print profiles of lethal weapons. It is part of the wholesome image they would prefer to project. If falls in line with suppressing the models of male genitalia, women’s ■■■■■■■, and drug paraphernalia. It comes down to what kind of community one wants to be part of.
Their platform, their rules. There are plenty of risqué models available on Cults3d
