Growing Concerns About Bambu Lab’s Direction, An Open Letter

And there is no difference for you between “not given back” and “threaten them”? Interessting …

Hi, Complete Noob here. There is something I don’t understand. Today nearly everything can be jailbreak from grass mover to coffee machine and 3d printers are not that complicated machines in terms of actuators. Did nobody try to jailbreak the 3d printers from bamboo?

No offense buddy, but,

you-sir-are-a-noob-lpr93700u52gn90w-1753786413

I love my H2C but as soon as my internet went down it started acting like it was mad it couldn’t be connected to the internet and didn’t want want to even sync with my AMS or PC even in LAN mode just because it wanted a server connection like it couldn’t think for itself. For something costing over $2k is ridiculous it acts this way. I worry about stuff like this where devices literally lose all functionality or act abnormally when severed from their internet connections. I’m not a fan of always connected devices throwing fits when they lose connections.

Where did I say that? I didn’t. It is interesting that you bring this up though as there are a substantial amount of legal threats made by users on this forum towards Bambu.

I know this to be true, but certainly you vote with your money.

You know exactly what im talking about …

Independent software developer Pawel Jarczak has voluntarily shuttered his popular “OrcaSlicer-BambuLab” project following legal threats from Bambu Lab, ending one man’s fight to restore direct control to the popular third-party slicer.

As a company, who “borrowed” from Prusa at the beginning, thats just a bold move. And you know that.

There are always two ways to deal with such a market: 1) be better as everyone else or 2) shut down everything and make it a walled garden / monopole … It’s just a shame to see the direction BL has taken.

Yes, there was someone who started a project to do this and Bambo sent them a cease and desist. Scared the guy enough that he publicly quit (or moved the project to TOR. This is not confirmed).

People whinging about the X2D only having a 300° hot end is silly. Honestly if you acquired the X2D and you need to print an engineering material that requires a > 300° hot end then you’ve bought the wrong printer. 99% of the hobbyists really don’t need to go that high unless they are tinkering. PPS-CF or PPA-CF etc is overkill for most things and if you really need to print it you’ll already have a printer capable of printing it.

The reason I purchased my H2D and use it over my Core One is that Prusa only sell printers (at the consumer level) that go up to 290°. At least with Bambu you can tailor the printer to your needs.

Wow, that’s incredibly aggressive. But on what basis did BumbuLab try to scare them? Once you pay the hardware for it, it’s basically yours, no?

No, these are different things. @user_3670267618 is referring to using “alternative” printer firmware. An example of this is X1Plus. What you are referring to is a 3rd party slicer communicating with printers via Bambu’s cloud.

@user_3670267618 So i guess these are to different issue. From my reading I thought that they where trying to by pass the Networking and Cloud plugin using Orca Slicer.

From what Jon is indicating (and I believe he does have a greater depth of knowledge on this), is that they where trying to hijack the network/cloud connection rather than by pass it. is that a correct understanding @JonRaymond ?

If so, wouldn’t it still expose the overall system to Bambu’s network? In effect, giving really no reason to add Orca into the loop?

I’ve gotten an cease and desist before and it’s pretty ■■■■■■■ scary. Even though you might be in the right, it’s often better to back away then to try to fight it.

Wow, unbelievable. We should try to implement some kind of ITAR free 3D printers.

If you want a printer that runs open source firmware there are plenty of them available from other manufacturers.

Here’s a bit of background information on what started the thing:

and here you have 2 links that detail the why this guy (Paweł Jarczak, the developer) had stopped his work on developing a workaround that removed Bambu’s Connect crapware and restored full access (like it was before the forced introduction of Bambu’s crapware) for OrcaSlicer:

and the following is a link to unS0uL’s GitHub page for additional info and …testing, if really interested in this topic.

There is a “gentleman who runs several non profit organizations who defend poor guys like this” who offered to defend him for free and he points out why…NSFW language so make sure your kids are not around…

I knew full well I was making a deal with the devil when I bought the Bambu printers this year, but I did it anyway because they make good stuff. But, so do a lot of other companies. By the time their ‘next big thing’ comes along, I hope there are a lot of other options that I trust to move toward.
