Great article. I really admire your determination.

Ive been fighting the good fight with PVA on my H2D the past few weeks and have come to a number of conclusions and questions that still abound lol. I did finally get it to work in some ways but I finally decided to peruse the web after a bit of experimenting to see if others had encountered similar issues since this has all been an “experience” in testing anyways. You touched on alot of them but somehow I still want to find a way to get my PVA to attach to PLA for interface supports only. It constantly just fails and creates a mess on the prime tower and the actual print. Surely there is a reasonable way without messing too much with the BambuLab presets?! Now if only I can find a way to override the 0.2 nozzle option they took away from us due to concerns over the moisture absorption at that nozzle size (I have a 1 hour print that desperately needs that 0.2 nozzle.)

Also if possible would love to have a private message chat with you over the whole PVA thing (maybe even over Discord) to exchange results and ideas If your interested. Would love to also pick your brain over a thing or two

you know, i’m not the OP, but I had a dickens of a time printing in petg with pla supports. Root cause? Don’t use any random pla+/matte/silk whatever. Once I switched to straight simple PLA (natural) everything just worked. dry your filaments first etc etc.

That being said, I’m also curious about using this approach with petg+pla. I’ll need to run some experiments.

Would the same settings hold for a 0.2 nozzle?

The 3MF seems to be set to 0.20 preset. Is that better than 0.08 Extra Fine?

The 3mf is still there at the bottom of Mecha’s first post. Opens google drive and then you just need to click download.

@mecha Wondering if you could use that brain of yours to help me out here. Unfortunately, I cannot post photos of this specific model, but if you’d like, I can share the print profiles/settings. However, I am using your profile almost to the T. All the settings except for the normal expansion are the same (I went down to 0mm since it was going to print PVA on top of PLA for this model and was not sticking in trials)… Well dried before, kept at 60C the whole time, etc…

What I’m seeing (in the photo below) is basically ripped off or chunking “crystals” much like raw sugar. This doesn’t happen much at the start, but does appear more as printing goes on. (This is roughly 24hrs into a 3-day print) I’ve had this happen before on the same model and am not really sure what the source is. Essentially, you can think of this model as many nested hollow sphere halves with coaxial, conical holes/negative space that extends from the outside at the largest towards and interior opening at the center of the sphere…

I’m not sure if it’s just because of the “shortness” of the moves when it is making the PVA lines (think like 5mm of travel or less sometimes), but I am also seeing what looks like blobs or lifts sometimes at the start and end of lines… Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Oh sorry, I see what you mean. Looks like his Google folder isnt set to shareable anymore. Hopefully he’ll see this and update it.

our printing profile really helped me use PVA for my figures. Do you have any recommendations based on your settings to use less PVA material? Like using PVA only for the support interface instead of the full supports?

Did you request access to the folder?
