H2C and AMS (6 unit)

Just wondering if Bambu will address the current AMS limitation of 4 filament spools on a single AMS unit with the introduction of the H2C that will have the potential of 6 colors on the right side. It appears that the top of the current H-Series printers are wide enought to hold a potential 6 filament AMS unit.

Do you mean a 6 color AMS? Can’t you run 2 AMS or 1 AMS + 2AMS PRO though a splitter into the same port right now?

You are correct, you can run two 4-unit AMS units. It would be nice to see a 6 unit AMS unit as an upgrade to the H2C.

I’ve thought about the same thing. It doesn’t make sense to have a 6 tool head printer with only a 4 spool AMS. Yes, you can add more AMS’ but it shouldn’t be that way.

Now here’e the real question, since the current AMS’ only have one outlet you have the issue of still swapping filaments with less than 6 AMS’. I would hope they intend to offer a 6 spool AMS that has 6 outlets assuming you want to use all 6 heads in one print. I know there are workaronds but honestly if they intend to pull off a must have printer it needs a new AMS for it as well in my opinion.

It won’t be a must-have printer. The H series is not a must-have for everyone.

A 6-spool AMS unit can make sense for H2C. However, whether it’s economically feasible will depend on the size of demand. Design modification and setting up a new production line cost money.

Doesn’t the AMS unit’s six outlets also imply that the printer should provide six corresponding inlets—each with its own buffered input—to maintain consistent loading, path management, and redundancy across all channels? @mugglesmuggle don’t forget to check this for anti AI.

Id be more interested in an update allowing more then 4 AMS units to be attached. Im not sure why this isn’t a thing with the AMS 2 since it has external power ports.

an “AMS 3” with 6 spools would be the best what about an “AMS HT 2” with two spools?

“Must have” was a poor choice of words, my intent was if they want to offer a printer that says it’s the best in its class. Either way seems kludgy to not have an appropriate AMS for it. A 4 or 6 outlet AMS makes sense to me.

I don’t know, it seems to me that if it doesn’t then what’s the point of 6 heads?

The H2D has two nozzles and two buffers, it just makes sense the H2C would have one for each tool head. Switching filament thru two buffers would add more time to a print, thus reducing the advantage of having 6 heads.

Okay, I have to admit I never watched the video that closely so I stand corrected.
The video shows two bowden tubes, so I’m wrong thinking it will have more than two buffers.

I stand on my point of switching filament to the nozzle holder will add time to the print. I was thinking the printer would/could have all 6 heads loaded at the same time much like the XL or U1 for example. Either way I’m sure it will be a lot faster than having to purge as well between material changes.

It’s not unlikely that the H2C will come with an AMS with 6 spools – otherwise, the Vortek system wouldn’t really make sense.
But the printer itself will continue to have only one extruder, and thus only one filament tube leading to the AMS.
Every time the nozzle is changed via Vortek – and this only changes the nozzle – the filament will first be pulled back to the AMS, and the new one will be drawn back into the extruder.

It won’t work any other way with an existing print head that also includes a second nozzle – this device is a far cry from what other “real” tool changers offer.

I’d expect nothing being changed with the AMS since both versions have been finalized. I wouldn’t overthink it and simply expect configurations to be as such stated by Bambu Lab.

To be honest, I don’t believe a new AMS will be released, because the necessary technology for changing materials has long been available (AMS in any form + 4-in-1 adapter).
The 7th filament comes from the fixed second nozzle anyway, and the information is limited to an H2C or H2D conversion. When converting the H2S, there will only be 6 filaments, if at all—that has already been announced.

My guesses on the H2C:

  • Yes, its still going to have only 2 buffers. although it has multiple nozzles, when the filament cuts and the nozzle is pulled out of the toolhead, that little extra filament on the nozzle stays there and the filament in the toolhead is pulled back. When having that same nozzle come back, and although with its extra filament stuck onto it, this won’t cause any problems due to the fact the motors in the toolhead will just push extra filament back through the nozzle, treating the extra bit stuck the the nozzle as if it was just a part of the rest.
  • No, I don’t think there will be a 6 unit AMS, but I do think it is much more likely for a 2 unit AMS. This makes sense due to Bambu lab’s nature of making things small and simple. A 6 unit AMS probably won’t even be able to be fit on an H2 series printer, and besides, 1, 2, 4 just sounds much better than 1, 4, 6 since the repeated multiplication that is followed in the first pattern.
  • just 6 switchable nozzles using vortek? I measured the gap from the build plate to the wall of my H2D in both length and width, and that is far more space needed for just 6! in fact, at most (not including whatever parts are involved in the switching mechanism) 10 nozzles! probably shave off 2 due to the actual swapping system, but then that’s where we have our beautiful sweet spot. 8 switchable nozzles. 2 AMS units. Its perfect.

can someone place 6 spools on top of their H2S/H2D and see if the space is sufficient for a possible 6-unit AMS at all?

There will only be 6 replaceable nozzles – this has already been clearly communicated by Bambu.
In addition, the H2C will have a smaller print bed than the H2D, and presumably, converting an H2D will also make its print bed smaller (i.e., requiring replacement), because the entire mechanism needs space, and the print head wouldn’t otherwise be able to move far enough to the right to change the nozzle.

Its prob js gonna be some silly mod! ik for a fact Bambu isn’t going to make it 8, but people will definitely try to make it possible. I saw the post. Ik they aren’t going to do it. But also on your thing about the build plate, I’m sure they won’t make a 4th build plate size for their 3D printers, but the build volume will be decreased. I pulled up the teaser video and I found this frame that shows that the width of the build size is 330mm


Edit: you can also CLEARLY see that theres enough space to stuff 2 more nozzles in the mechanism :sob:
