I had a “Failed to pull out the filament from the extruder…” error mid print. I cut the filament at the nozzle, and pushed it through with the NoClogger. After a couple of passes, the Vortek system put the nozzle back, and grabbed another. However, I am now getting the same issue on the new nozzle. There is no filament in the hotend. The NoClogger can reach the tip of the nozzle fine. I can put in a small piece of filament into the hotend, and watch it retract. Yet, it still has some filament stuck somewhere. Any ideas? Since I can’t upload video, here is a shot showing the no clogger at the nozzle.
Are you sure there is not some broken filament somewhere in the entire PTFE run?
Is it loading the filament all the way to the print head and then pulling it back again?
If so you may have an extruder clog
What I’ve done in this situation is
- disconnect the PTFE tube from the right side of the tool head,
- manually set the nozzle temperature up to working temperature
- Feed a length of filament into the open right side entry to the tool head and then tapped the extrude button to assess if it will feed and extrude
- If that works then try a manual load from an external spool.
- When that all worked, I’ve tried to get it to load with that PTFE disconnected from the tool head to see if it will push filament or of the end of the tube that’s detached.
I have had a piece of broken filament inside the orange buffer just inside the back of the machine, just where I couldn’t see it
The PTFE tubing is clear from the AMS to the nozzle. Buffers are clear. Horned appears to be clear, I manually purged what was in the line with the no clogger. The weird thing is that it won’t even pull the filament from the AMS.
This happened in the middle of a filament change, so I’m not able to manually set the temp and extrude. That’s why I pulled out the no clogger.
I would prefer to do what I can to save the print, it’s 2 days into a 3 day plate. If I have to take the nozzle apart though then it is what it is.
Have you checked the inner hub in the AMS?
It contains magnets that if they are stuck they signal that there is filament loaded even if it’s not and then it will refuse to load filaments until this is cleared.
What is a “no clogger” ? Is that a printed device to push filament through the nozzle?
It’s just a tool that you can use to manually purge filament or use to unclog a nozzle. You can push it down into the hotend to manually extrude the filament. It’s an alternative to using the small key that comes with the printers. I’ve only needed to use it a handful of times, but it has come in handy when it was needed.
I disassembled all AMS units and cleaned them pretty well. I disassembled the hotend, cleaned up both left and right nozzles. Cleaned out the gear (I did find some strands of filament in there). Took apart the front guide inlet, cleaned and reassembled.
After powering the printer back on and attempted to load a filament I still get a “Please pull out the filament on the right extruder…” error. At this point, based on what I have read, it must be the extruder idlers and/or filament sensor. Anyone know a good way to test whether those are operating correctly or not?
I’ve got a support ticket open, I’ll update with what I hear back in case it’s helpful for others.
This issue also seems to only affect the vortek side. I was printing on the left nozzle today without issue.
I had this on the left side, took out the nozzle and pulled the rest of the filament with a pliers. The message stayed, so i took of the ptfe and inserted filament and pushed it till it came out at the bottom, grabbed it and pulled it through, was about 40cm long, after i put back the noozle and the ptfe, reseted the fault. Since then all was good
Well, this turned out to be the hall sensor magnet on the right idler arm. Once you take apart the idlers and remove the hall sensor circuit, you can see the magnet sitting behind it. If you were to push a piece of filament into the nozzle, you should see the magnet go forward which activates the sensor. In my case it wasn’t doing anything. Tech support helped walk me through this and hopefully they are sending another extruder, which is what they recommend gets replaced.

Be very, very careful with those FPS cables. They are very small and not very sturdy, they will easily fall apart. It took me a few minutes to gently wiggle each one loose, but even then, the second they detached from the circuit the FPS sheathes popped right off. I hope I won’t have to mess with these again in the near future.

Quick update. It ended up being the hall sensor on the right nozzle. I got a replacemend toolend assembly from support. The install went fine except for some of the cables which popped off as soon as they were released from the connector. They ended up just sending me a full xy axis that I installed. I’ve done several test prints with success.
It was a pia, but at the same time it was fun to tear apart the toolhead and learn more about the H2 series.
