I wonder if H2C owners have already looked into how this works. The sales pitch is that you can keep track of nozzles this way for example for different materials. But using the interface on the printer it looks to me there are still many parts unfinished or unclear. I feel like the AMS there are some good sides to the way vortek handles changing nozzles i only owned a p1s before and didn’t bother changing them but if its this easy i will and can. (guess the left is also easy compared to p1s but ok). I have many questions and maybe some ideas we can submit so felt good idea to start a thread.

Clearly it does indeed remember nozzles based on S/N remove one turn off machine put it back it sees it and shows the color that was inside once you ‘read it’ again. What is weird is that it only shows the color and not the material or even better all it knows about this nozzle/material inside.

I assumed that this info is not stored in the nozzle but the printer just keeps a database of S/N and matches that. BUT they say this even works if you insert them into a different printer. That means it really has to store data inside this $35 part or do they trick it by sending the database over the network to other printers (cloud?).

clearly they should show at least the material not just the color (their own example, keep different nozzles for different materials). But what else can they track? Number of times used, number of heat cycles, number of hours used, max temp used ? No idea not a 3d printer expert but wonder about this.

If they indeed keep a database inside the printer and match the S/N like they surely do they should allow us to add a name/label to each. Once we get more of them and store them in some box we might add names/numbers to them to keep track of which is which since ‘reading’ them takes 10+ seconds.

The ‘list’ of hotends now only show the S/N’s the most important thing for the printer i guess but the least important to me. It should create a ‘infocard’ for each in that list with color, material, assigned label and maybe the info talked about above.

its a pity they didn’t add a second ‘reader’ point on/in the printer putting it on the rack and ‘reading’ it takes 10-20 seconds would have been nice since both power for the chip and data is wireless to have a second reader where we could just ‘touch’ the hotend and show the info on the display when making sure we have the correct one.
Again i am not a expert and have been asking questions on highflow vs not, different nozzles, sizes but to me this ‘ams’ like nozzle system compared to say INDX or a toolchanger is slower but could/should be more flexible by keeping track of this and helping us manage (and sell) more nozzles for different usecases.
Anyone else already looked into this and maybe has found menu’s or things i overlooked?
So far seems bambu only started to implement what this could do in helping us keep track of these nozzles and optimise the use of them.
