H2C - Issue with 4-in-1 PTFE-Adapter

Hi everyone, the print results with my brand new H2C are very good, but my satisfaction about the printer is somehow affected by some issues with the filament feeding. At the right printhead, I have connected two AMS 2 Pro and of course then I have to use the 4-in-1 PTFE-Adapter within the PTFE chain. Once the AMS is pushing the filament trought the adapter, the noise is different, I can hear, it’s getting harder trough, also the AMS takes more effort to push further. After printing, once the filament is getting back to the AMS, it looks like somehow “shaved” or more “coarsed”.
If I do it manual, means pushing filament trough the adapter, there is a certain amount of resistance to feel and it’s noisier… for all 4 entrance slots. My first suspicion was the new cleaning pad, but it makes barely difference if in place or not.
So the question is, is it usual that way?

Btw, if I bypass the adapter, it’s working better, but still some resitance a changed noise once, the filament is passing the entrance buffer.

The adapter has a cleaning pad. Try removing it. Maybe your filament is too large in diameter to pass through the pad.

See my text… I already tried to remove the cleaning pad - it dosn’t make a difference. It’s made of soft rubber, the friction is very low and it can’t scrape the filament at all.

Not sure how many people can help you not many got their 4->1 convertor since that was part of the ultimate package… or maybe many did order it by itself. I hope its something simple.

I’m not sure if it’s helpful or not, but there is a definite noise difference when the filament goes into the standard 4-in-1 adaptor (H2D with multiple AMS per hotend), sounds like it’s having to push harder to get it through.

ehmm ok i have to find it then :slight_smile: ok found it assumed it was much bigger. Its only my second 3d printer so ill start a ‘got a h2c but are a newbie like me thread’ for people like me.

Then you likely have some misaligned PTFE tubing – it should not produce any noise or snapping sounds. I have four units connected to my H2D and none of them make any sounds.

In my case, one of the splitters did make noise because the outlet was misaligned, which also caused feeding issues, so check that as well. Simply removing the PTFE tube and reattaching it properly usually resolves the problem.

That was the first thing I checked, because I knew it from earlier, but it doesn’t matter.

Same here my ptfe 4 to 1 adapters don’t make any noise at all.

I have this same issue with my H2S. It does make a odd noise and after a while of printing it will retract the filament then give me a AMS motor over load and I have to hit finshed and resume to keep printing. Really annoy. If I put my P1S on the the same setup it just works. I have tested 5 different 4way adapters from bambu all have the same issue. But when I connect 1 AMS 2 directly to the printer I have not issue. its kinda annoying that i have 4 AMS 2’s and a few HTS i cant use.

What I already learned from trial & error is that the alignment of the PTFE tubes is quite important in relation to the bending direction of the filament. That might be the reason, other users haven’t issues with that… whether coincidentally or not.
If wrong, then the resistance within the adapter is bit higher and it’s not only the entrance. So it’s probably bad gliding properties inside and quality differences between batches.

My buddy got an H2S at the same time I did, and he’s having the same issue with the 1–4 adapter. I’m currently working with Bambu support on it. I ordered a non-Bambu adapter from Amazon to test as well. I also have a new P2S, so I might try my AMS setup on that to see if it has the same issues.

I raised a Bambu ticket, too.
I’m glad, I’m not the only one with such an issue - especially at the beginning, I thought I did something wrong. After some retries with new connected PTFE tubes and direction changes, I was more sure, that something with the adapter must be wrong. The old 4in1 hub at my X1C was better in terms of friction/resistance.

If the new ones share the same design as the old, it is very easy to misalign an already connected PTFE tube when you remove or install another one. Always check all connected PTFE tubes to make sure none of them are misaligned or otherwise affected.

Looks different as the old ones… but not sure if already supplied for the H2D/H2S series.
There is a certain resistance right where the 4 tubes are connecting in the middle, maybe the radius is not optimal or the material inside.

I have the same problems. I bought 2 adapters for my H2D because I thought the rubber filter is an advantage. It creates some very strange sounds, at least I never had a overload warning from my AMS units.

I’ve noticed this with my H2C as well, but more so today after setting up my 2nd AMS2 and installing the 4to1 adapter. The place I notice the biggest slowdown and struggle with the AMS is when the filament reaches the final radius between the chain clips and where it enters the toolhead. It wasn’t too bad until I installed the 4to1 adapter with the extra drag from it and the cleaning pad the AMS motor slows to the point where it starts surging to push the filament that last little bit.
I may try first replacing that section of PTFE tube to see if it makes a difference, and/or second take the glass off and reroute the tube outside of the chain clips to curve more natural into the toolhead and see if there’s any changes.

Even when I got a new PTFE adapter from Bambu, I realized, it’s not much better. It’s not caused by the adapter alone, but from the whole chain … PTFE tube quality, radius, length, adapter, buffer. All the things slow down and keep the AMS very busy.
So I did shorten the tubes and avoid too strong radius with placing both AMS to the left. In addition, I printed a 2into1 adapter from makerworld (slick design) with better “connection” conditions. Since that, I got no AMS overload errors anymore and also shorter exchange times.
