H2C Long Beep Before Printing

Are there any plans to turn OFF the long BEEP before printing ?

I sent the start print command so I know the printer is going to be moving.

The Sound OFF in the settings menu does not change the Pre-Print Long Beep.

At night time it is very loud and very long and very annoying.

Loud beep? Mine doesn’t beep. There’s a little melody that plays before it starts moving… I’m not usually a fan of noises but I find it kinda pleasant and reassuring, not like an obnoxious beep. I’m not sure what you’re hearing, but the start and end sounds are programmed in the machine’s start and end g-code (in printer’s properties in Studio).

Is it a laser module thing, do you have that?

You can turn off all off the sounds if you prefer, thats how mine is setup.

Coming from the X1C, the sounds of the H2C really bothered me. That was the first thing I turned off in the settings :smiley:

What bothers me more are the pointlessly frequent empty runs of the print head before each print, during which it constantly moves back and forth and the filament cutter arms are folded in and out EXTRA LOUDLY each time.

Just out of curiosity. Is the nice melody (yes I like it!) made by some kind of stepper motor motion? Or is there a speaker in the housing?

Doesn’t help much if it would do it less at startup. Some motions are required to go that far back while others require to come forward. Some optimization might be possible though. However, on each nozzle wipe during printing, you will have the same.

Are you connected to a UPS? I experienced this too, and it turned out that my H2C was drawing almost 1500W when heating the bed and chamber at once. That overloaded my 1000W UPS, which started screaming. I enabled ā€œlow power modeā€ to stop this from happening - it heats slower, but it won’t kill my circuits haha.

No long beep on my H2C. Plays a few notes at the start and end of a print job, reminiscent of the chimes played on trains in Asia when they’re pulling in to a station… Would like a volume control, since it’s a lot louder than it has to be, what with my printer about 3 feet away from my left ear. But otherwise unobjectionable.

And yes, pretty sure there’s a speaker in there somewhere and it’s not using the steppers to make the tones.

Ha, yeah the startup melody would be a bit loud if right next to me… through a wall/door it’s nice!

According to Google AI the start/end sound g-code does vibrate the stepper motors. And apparently the L, M, & N parameters could be the volume. Of course it could be hallucinating.

Does the ā€œsoundā€ setting not control this sound?

You can definitely make music with the steppers. Anything that moves fast enough, really. Decades ago, I worked for a company that made HDDs. And every Christmas, we’d reprogram a few to play Christmas tunes with the actuator inside that moved the heads around. I fly drones, and the speed controls for the electric motors can be programmed to play a startup tune using the motor coils.

The problem with using a stepper (or actuator or electric motor) to make music is that different frequencies excite different resonances that make tones louder or softer, or that cause other elements in the mechanical structure to buzz/vibrate out of tune.

The tones emitted by the H2C are ā€œcleanā€. I could be wrong, since I’m just guessing. But the sound’s fidelity sounds too good to me to be coming from a vibrating motor. :slight_smile:

I know, was listening to 8" floppy drives play tunes several decades ago. Wrote firmware for ESCs. I was just pointing out that you may be able to control the volume with the code.

I don’t actually know but drones can play a tune using the BLDC motors which I believe Bambu use in their extruder. So it’s a guess they are using that.

Oh it does. I experimented for fun a while back to generate music from a midi file selecting some tracks so it can be played by the printer.

Ii’s very rough and unpolished but you can actually experience what you can get from the motors. Just extract the gcode from the zip file, put it on your USB stick and print (you will click print but don’t worry, it’s not an actual print, it will just play the music) :slight_smile:

Id like to replace the beeps with user custom sound files. Not sure what I’d like it to say when it starts, but I’m sure I could think of something more fun than ā€˜beep’…:grin:

I don’t think I have a long beep at the start of a print but a melody like tadada tadadi but I will be more careful next time. If it’s a beep I don’t think it comes from the motors.

THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!!! It’s so loud that I just figured it was coming from my printer. I have it connected to an APC 1500. Thank you so much for that info. I feel so dumb not paying attention to it, but it sits below my printer so it’s hard to tell where its coming form.

I confirm this is coming from the APC during warmup of the build plate. My X1C for a short while exceeds current absorption rate so the APC beeps

I have to agree with this. It’s kinda happy. I like that.
