H2c toolhead optimizations

I’m trying to optimize multi-material prints on the H2C and had a question about toolhead efficiency.

My current setup:

2× AMS (8 slots) feeding the right-side multi-nozzle system

1× AMS HT feeding the single nozzle on the left

So I currently have 9 filament slots total, but only 7 nozzles available (including the left one).

Once I go beyond 7 colors, at least one filament has to be swapped and purged. With 9 colors, that means 2 swaps.

My question is:

Would it be faster (or more efficient) to distribute those swaps across both toolheads (e.g. one swap on the left nozzle and one on the right), rather than having all swaps happen on the right side?

And related to that:

Would adding a second AMS HT on the left side (so the left nozzle can switch between two filaments) actually help reduce total purge time or improve print efficiency in these multi-color scenarios?

I’m mainly trying to reduce purge waste and overall print time.

I initially thought my right hotend was purging faster than the left but that’s not the case when purging different colors (although I did not time it). Assuming it is the same I would put the color change on the shortest PTFE tubes and faster AMS, then certainly the AMS-HT on the left.

This said it may also depend on your color choices. If black and white on the left, it might not be the right setup given the volume of purge required but if yellow ang green or black and blue, left is is a better choice.

I’m also not too sure the vortek will select the nozzle with the previous color closest to the next to print. You might want to run some tests as it seems for color changes it uses the nozzle already installed in the toolhead whatever was the previous color and do a max purge.

I use the same set-up but am quite happy to keep it that way.

Looking forward to the new Filament Track switch becoming compatible with the H2C in Q2: It’ll (ideally) not matter which AMS is connected to which nozzle…

Ya I think with this it might fix the issue. I wonder how hard it’ll be to grab once it’s out…
