Hi folks, hope you’re all well. Newbie here both to printing and to the Bambu community.
I’ve found similar threads, but nothing with exactly my question, so fingers crossed a seasoned pro might be able to please help. ![]()
Christmas came early and I got myself an H2D, 2x AMS 2 Pros (each with an external PSU) and an AMS HT. I also have a 4-in-1 PTFE Adapter. The H2D has been great for the first few prints I’ve whizzed through, mostly with PLA Basic and PETG HF. I’ve now wanted to have a go at some higher temp printing in ABS to do some dry pods for the desiccate.
In my mind, the ABS was going to go in the AMS HT, with 1x AMS 2 Pro for PETG and the other 1x AMS 2 Peo for the PLA. My thinking was that it’s easier to manage the humidity / drying etc when each AMS is kept for a different filament material.
Whilst thinking this through, I spent some time reaching the Bambu Lab wiki, but couldn’t find a “proper” answer - I’m trying to understand which AMS with which filament to daisy chain to which nozzle.
The FAQ mentions that “Because H2D is a dual-hotend printer, and in the most extreme scenario, all AMS can be connected to one hotend while the other hotend uses an external spool holder, it can support up to 25 colors.” - note the word “can”.
This seems to align with the Bambu connection guide - this shows the same, all AMS 2 Pros and all AMS HTs all connecting to the top PTFE pipe (right nozzle), with the bottom PTFE pipe (left nozzle) being fed just from the external spool for TPU etc. Screenshot below.
I would have thought that this approach has some disadvantages. I also appreciate that this is likely to be something where everyone has a point-of-view.
- You lose true two-material printing, the main advantage of the H2D - two independent printheads.
- Uneven nozzle wear and usage
- Longer AMS load paths - friction adds up
- External spool not accessible to AMS login - external sppl is managed manually, no spool tracking, drying status, purge towers, colour mapping and spool-change notifications - all advantages of AMS-fed nozzles.
- No dual AMS redundancy - if nozzle 1 clogs, all AMS inputs are blocked.
Anyway, in this scenario, how would you advise me to set up the 3x AMSs - as Bankbu sets out in the Wiki, or a different way entirely? Which filament would you put in which AMS, which would you daisy chain, and which port would you route them too
