I’ve had an X1C for about a year now and it’s been great. However I use a lot of support in my designs and liked the idea of using an H2D to give me one nozzle for support and the other for the main material.
I received my H2D 7 days ago, and while initially impressed I found using the PLA/Pet support material a real issue. It wouldn’t stick to the pla-cf well, and when doing overhangs the pla-cf wouldn’t print on top of it. I spent days and nights trying to resolve the issue, slowing down for overhangs etc.
Last night I came to the conclusion that the H2D wasn’t fit for purpose and determined to send it back. Then I recalled someone talking about flow calibration. It’s something I didn’t worry about with the X1C, but I understand that the H2D doesn’t have Lidar, so flow calibration has to be done manually.
To cut a long story short, I ran it on both nozzles. The right one wasn’t far out, but the left (support nozzle) was under extruding and the recommend setting was 1.067 which I understand is quite a lot out.
This resolved the issue completely for me. While I have the speed way down on that nozzle for bridges and overhangs to the extent that it’s 25% slower than the X1C, I’m happy to start ramping up the speed.
I know it’s been mentioned (flow calibration) in other chats but it’s often buried, so I hope this simple explanation is of use to those that follow
