H2D and the Lack of OrcaSlicer Support

I’ve got an H2D on the way, so naturally the first thing I did was download OrcaSlicer. To my surprise, I found out it doesn’t even support the H2D. Just my luck… I guess I’m stuck using Bambu Studio for the foreseeable future, like it or not. Why did Dr. Tao and the team have to go in this direction?

I miss the old days when the company was just starting out and wasn’t so cocky.

They really did just abuse the open source community for their help and then upon sucking them dry they left them to die in a ditch.

It unfortunately seems this way, that they kept it open until their slicer was stable enough and then shut down a lot of things. Sad for such a good company. I hope the printer is more enjoyable to use than their software and attitude.

they could make a printer that would make the person c–…

ahem

… “explode” with “euphoria” and i would still not buy a new bambu printer ever again.

they could be the last 3d printer manufacturer left on the planet and i would just switch to woodwork and the old days of vacuum-forming plastic. that’s how bitter i am about this entire situation of their own creation.

Whether a particular printer is supported or not under Orcaslicer is a choice made by that team and it’s contributors and has nothing to do with Bambu Lab.

That’s a common misconception, but saying OrcaSlicer’s development has “nothing to do with Bambu Lab” is incorrect. The reality is that Bambu Lab’s decisions directly and constantly influence OrcaSlicer…

That’s incorrect.

The unnecessary “auth system” was BambuLab decision and it directly hinders open source development. Not just OrcaSlicer, but all that wish to support Bambu printers.

BambuConnect can be invoked via url. Orca team rather requested a key to embed in their software (shared by all users) to circumvent the key handshake. Bambu said no, rightly. EOL.

Edit: in before an A-hat points out that the beta used a hard coded key before the backend was in place is missing the entire point in order to be a dunce.
