H2D Buffer Tolerance

I’m sharing this to save someone else a lot of diagnostic time.

I recently had several print failures because the filament had excessive friction in the feed path. I changed the 4-1 splitter and all of the PTFE tubing in the path but still had the problem. It kept trying to load and retract the filament until it got an error.

I found the filament would stop feeding shortly after getting through the buffer. Because of a shortage of White PETG at Bambu, I was forced to use Creality PETG (fully dried 9%).

I really needed the part for a project. I measured the filament diameter and it measured 1.89mm rather than 1.75mm. I had to spool about 5 meters of filament before I got back to a 1.78 diameter and was able to complete the job.

I spliced the bad filament back on the remaining spool and gave it to a friend with an A1 because he could feed it directly without a buffer. It seems to work just fine on the A1.

I have had a similar feed problem before where I got AMS feed friction errors but usually resolved it by changing the peed path components or routing. But I never thought to check the filament diameter nor did I think 0.1 mm diameter increase would cause the friction through the buffer.

BTY, Later, I could actually get the filament to run if I ran it directly through the TPU path on the H2D. It did run through the extruder without issue. But I still chose to give it to someone with an A1 that direct feeds already.

I will check the filament diameter first when I next have an AMS feed problem.

Hey Now… I was labeled some sort of “troll” and every other name in the book when I told someone with print issues about Creality’s “steller quality” lol.

My first printer was an Ender 3 so I thought: Creality printer means I should get Creality Filament right? Nope… That filament almost immediately went into the recycle bin after too many failed prints. The best cheap filament (in my opinion) is Overture or Polymaker.

I do a lot of ABS, and that’s the 1st thing I tried from their lineup. It prints like garbage and is so toxic you can see it smoking while coming out the nozzle. I’ve never seen glass get so dirty so fast. It looked like windows of cars from people who smoke. Nasty stuff.

Now I have thousands of hours with Polylite ABS and it’s all been rock solid. Neon Green and only Neon green seems to be the one culprit that seems to collect moisture like a madman (always seems I have to dry it, very brittle, breaks in the spool by a simple bend of the hand) but other than that.., it’s been great. Great layer adhesion, strength, accuracy, and quality.
