I’m sharing this to save someone else a lot of diagnostic time.
I recently had several print failures because the filament had excessive friction in the feed path. I changed the 4-1 splitter and all of the PTFE tubing in the path but still had the problem. It kept trying to load and retract the filament until it got an error.
I found the filament would stop feeding shortly after getting through the buffer. Because of a shortage of White PETG at Bambu, I was forced to use Creality PETG (fully dried 9%).
I really needed the part for a project. I measured the filament diameter and it measured 1.89mm rather than 1.75mm. I had to spool about 5 meters of filament before I got back to a 1.78 diameter and was able to complete the job.
I spliced the bad filament back on the remaining spool and gave it to a friend with an A1 because he could feed it directly without a buffer. It seems to work just fine on the A1.
I have had a similar feed problem before where I got AMS feed friction errors but usually resolved it by changing the peed path components or routing. But I never thought to check the filament diameter nor did I think 0.1 mm diameter increase would cause the friction through the buffer.
BTY, Later, I could actually get the filament to run if I ran it directly through the TPU path on the H2D. It did run through the extruder without issue. But I still chose to give it to someone with an A1 that direct feeds already.
I will check the filament diameter first when I next have an AMS feed problem.
