H2D Huge PPS-CF fail

I’ve been printing a lot of PPS over the past few months since purchasing the H2D. However today I had the largest failure yet on my machine. Came back to check on a print that I’ve done several times before to find a big stalagmite hanging from the nozzle. Took about 1 hour to cut, scrape, and peel away the material. Not sure why the automated failure detection didn’t find this sooner.

Never nice to see this happen. I had a similar experience with a PAHT-CF print a while ago.

No alarm then also, but the result was not as bad as yours.

Nevertheless, the AI fault detection is not perfect, you could increase its sensitivity, but that might result in false positives.

Spaghetti detection works flawlessly though.

This looks like a leaking nozzle. I’ve had 3 fail towards the top right of the nozzle.

you’re printing PPS-CF with standard nozzles, not WC ?

I was using the standard hardened steel nozzle because it’s what I had. I’ll be replacing this one with a tungsten nozzle. I was interested in the Diamondback style but found out it has a max temperature of 300C, not suitable for PPS or PPA.

  • The maximum print temperature on their specs page is 350° for H2 nozzles.

Where did you see that? The Diamondback website says, “DiamondBack Nozzle temperatures should not exceed 300 Celsius”.

What is the maximum printing temperature of the DiamondBack HotEnd?
These HotEnds are rated to 350°C.

What you linked is old information referring to the V6 or Revo style nozzles

I reached out to US Synthetic (the makers of the diamond back nozzle tips) and confirmed that the max temperature is indeed 350C. They’ll be updating the info on the website.

What is interesting is that US Synthetic (a.k.a DiamondBack) make the tips, E3D convert them into nozzles and then US Synthethics sells them domestically but with the E3D brand.
