When the H2D dropped along with the H2D laser about 7 months ago, there was also a rotary module teased to come later. Here is the picture I found from the teaser:
Many speculation have also been going around that Bambu will release an Infrared laser, a 20W laser, a Fibre laser, and many other things that have been being thrown around here and there.
Another thing I wanted to suggest regarding the laser cutting equipment is the software. I want to have the ability to change the offset of how high the laser is to the bed so it can change the focus points of it, so I can change how deep or how thin the cut is so I can fully customize the exact intensity of the laser’s power without having to upload a picture with different shade intensities or just going off the “cut or engrave” kinda thing. This is very similar to the “using a .2 on the left and a .4 on the right hotend” thing but that’s another topic.
The reason is that you can play more with the engraving.
It is possible to engrave stainless steel with a blue-ish color.
I ran a test grid with various power settings (10w laser) and speeds but nothing gave the desired result.
When engraving my first sample the sheet got deformed and curled upwards an in the area where it was approximately 2mm higher I got my blue-ish color.
It shouldn’t be that hard to implement this Z-offset function in my opinion.
I haven’t seen any formal communication about this. But introducing an IR or a fiber laser will require a lot of additional safety measures, like different or additional shielding to keep it safe.
The machine has been designed to run in an office, not a workshop.
With a 10W and a 40W version already available, I don’t really see the purpose of an additional 20W version.
More options are good but I would like them to release the stuff they said they were going to go in the launch material.
The 3D mesh isn’t working yet, both the rotary tool and the fire extinguisher are also not available either. It took them 3 months before the small grids for the laser bed were available.
I’m tempted to get the standalone 10w laser in addition to the 40w as the spot dimension on 1 axis is significantly lower, 0.03mm versus 0.2mm, but they both have the same 0.14mm on the other axis. Can’t find any other manufacturers quoting 2 axis for the spot dimensions but for engraving work lower power seems to be better is the consensus (subject to material being engraved).
Suspect they have had to put a lot of software resource into Vortek and that’s holding up development. Would also prefer they sort the workflow in Studio as a priority too.
To be fair to BBL, and having watched a load of laser product reviews from Fauxhammer, they did a good job of the laser and it does work with the minimum amount of faff.
I also bought the 10W laser and currently use it almost exclusively.
It only reached its limits with 15mm foam; it couldn’t handle that anymore; it burned more than it cut.
But according to the data sheet, the laser spot is smaller, which is certainly an advantage for fine engraving – but I’ve only tried it as a test so far.
Why did Bambulab have to make the 40W module wider anyways? couldn’t they have stuffed all the extra electronics on the top so that it would be taller and wouldn’t limit the laser cutting area as much or do I just not know how a laser cutter works?
whatever they’re making for the vortek in software would benefit h2d i think. it’s dead simple to just swap color and nozzles. it’s hard to accomodate for, ahem, different size of nozzles.
I would realy like a feature, that connects common line segments in the arrangement process.
For example, if I cut 2 squres from one sheet of material, there are 2x4=8 lines. However, if the squares are right next to each other, they could share a common line. This will reduce the processing time and material needed as well as reducing the smoke and fumes.
It seems like this feature is already implementet in other software/ brands but I can not find it in Suite.
Also trying to arrange the parts by hand in Bambu Suite is quite hard as the software always keeps a small distance between parts which normaly does make sense.

And yes, this does have to do with lasers cuz a LiDAR is literally a laser… but its used for 3D printing usually, whatever. I’m just saying this cuz I’ve had 2 power outages where whenever I hit continue after the power came back, the z-offset was hella wack.
