H2D, Layer shift at nozzle change

I’m getting a weird shift on my H2D when the filament starts using the 2nd color. Picture shows two totally different objects printed at different times.
Both filaments are externally mounted (i.e., no AMS).

Object on left is with 0.2mm nozzles. Object on right using 0.4mm nozzles. Shift affects both colors/nozzles and appears to start when the 2nd color starts.

Any thoughts?

prety sure thats just overextrussion/layertime difference , check if at that point is where the inner “flat “solid” surface” is where it ends.

Not exactly sure what you mean. That face should be perfectly flat, but there is now a small “ledge” all around the part that’s probably a few nozzle widths wide. That is, the entire face has “shifted” in the Z plane at this point.

Print the model with only 1 color to see what happens.

I have noticed this issue myself and posted about it, and from experience, printing only one color eliminates the issue. Of course this doesn’t work for your print, but it would at least prove it’s a printer issue.

Have you done the high precision nozzle offset calibration? You have to manually disable the pre-print nozzle calibration to use this data when printing. Nozzle offset calibration introduction | Bambu Lab Wiki

Also, you can switch nozzle calibration from “auto” to “on” to force a full calibration (not high precision) rather than a quick offset calibration prior to printing.

Nothingham is likely referring to the “Benchy Hull Line” phenomena.

Find your layer that is malformed
Does this layer ALSO have a lot of top surfaces being printed, (looking at the model - the bottoms of your nozzle holder hole?) and thus have a notably longer layer time than the ones right above and below it?

Looking back at his photos, one item looks like it is indeed hull line, but the other one looks upside down, which probably means it’s indeed a layer shift. But to better understand we would need to see the whole print around. If it’s a layer shift the print will have shifted on the opposite side too but towards the same direction that the front side did. If it’s HLP it will manifest as a non uniform shrink/overextrusion

Apparently, it is now normal to have visible layers On every print that isnt a box with only 4 sides. Back to purely cf and gf for the h2d. K2 plus or XL for everything else large. X1c for small stuff. Just testing to see if there had been any progress.

Had a layer shift on a print I have done 5 or 6 times now without issue. This is a single color print too. I’m going to let it finish as it doesn’t affect my test fitting I’m doing, but still annoying. This is a 17 hour, 500g print.

Are you sure it’s a layer shift as this would show across the entire model as shown by the blue lines, not just a section of it.

My feelings are that the part has instead warped up in that section.

It’s really not the best picture, it is across the entire model.

nozzle crashed on warped part, causing a layer shift it looks like. well, this is probably the only case where a servo really helps

Eh, maybe. I’m just about done printing another one without issue.

running into similiar issues with my H2D. Its the worst when the filament runs out and it auto refills. Attached a picture. The large shift is after the refill. The smaller ones just occur randomly. Must be a way to fix this but anybody know how?

I experienced similar issues, but it was due to the filament cooling. The cooling “warped” the filament out of position, causing the line when the new filament as placed where the cooled filament was supposed to be.

Not sure how to fix it though, just need less time for filament to cool down before printing again.

interesing, I did consider it might be from cooling down because it had some time before continuing as the ams was stuck. That maybe explains the large shift, i need to print many many more so lets see how future prints pan out if the refill is normal.

Further up in the print, approx 1cm from the top, there is another edge / shift as smaller ones between the refill layer and this mentioned shift. Its very weird. and very frustrating

Did anyone ever figure out a way to avoid this? I’ve been running into it multiple times in a row with the same H2D (we have 4 in the class)
