H2D maintenance - spring found

Hello everyone,
I started with two Prusa printers, and the H2D is now my first printer from Bambulab. Today I was prompted to perform my first maintenance, so I went through the manual step by step (H2D Regular cleaning and maintenance recommendations | Bambu Lab Wiki).

When I reached Step 6 (Clean the toolhead), I done my work very carefully, since it was my first time doing this kind of cleaning.

  • Removed the right and left nozzle
  • Removed the front nozzle assembly and filament guide
  • Cleaned and lubricated everything

After putting everything back together and trying to reinstall the nozzle, it wouldn’t fit. After a couple of seconds of confusion, I noticed that a spring was stuck to the magnet on the back of the nozzle.

But I never removed a spring.

I immediately checked whether the spring on the filament guide was still in place — and it was.

I then reread the entire manual, looked at the pictures, and watched YouTube videos showing a complete teardown of the toolhead. Nothing. This spring was nowhere to be seen.

So now I’m hoping you can help. Do you know where this spring belongs?

Thank you for your reply, but unfortunately that’s not the spring.
I have that one, as you can see in one of my photos (the one with the red circle).

No, that’s not the spring. The spring you showed me is much larger and thicker than the one I showed you. The spring is still where it should be. Too bad. Thx

Here is a more professional English version with correct grammar and tone:
Are you sure it did not come from the outside?
Since it is magnetic, you might have picked up that spring from somewhere external.
I recently changed both the TH board and my hotend cooling fan and could not find any spring that should be able to come loose.
That is just a wild guess, though.

Yes, that could well be the case. However, I cleaned everything around the printer before I started maintenance. Therefore, I have to assume that it is coming from the printer. I am not familiar with the spring, not even from other projects I am working on.

Strange — I’m out of ideas then, as I didn’t notice any loose springs while working on it.

I also can’t remember a spring like this one.

Having a look at H2D dismantling on youtube, I cannot see anything ressembling that spring.

It could simply be an extra spring left in the machine (from a tool) on the production line but by experience it could also be one of YOUR spring that got there :slight_smile:

Given the slight curve of the spring, it looks a lot like the return spring of a pair of pliers, aren’t you missing one (or BL may be missing one :slight_smile: )?

Oh no — that’s the solution, and I really didn’t expect that at all.

The problem turned out to be the spring from my small pliers. Thank you very much, @philch.

I’ve been sending everyone on a wild goose chase, and in the end it was something so trivial — it simply never crossed my mind.

A big thank you to everyone who helped think this through with me!
