H2D outer plastic shell bulges after printing some ASA/ABS parts

After printing a few ABS/ASA parts, I noticed that the outer plastic shell of my H2D printer started warping. It looks like it had warped from the heat. Although it wasn’t obvious at first glance, if you put pressure on the side of the printer, the plastic wobbles. Even that wouldn’t be a problem if the wobble didn’t cause significant movement of the AUX fan, which appears to be attached to that plastic side. So, I’m not sure if it’s even properly aligned with the print bed anymore.

Am I crazy or were the BL engineers drunk when they designed this part? The AUX fan should have at least some support on a rigid part of the printer structure. The more I use the H2D, the more I notice how they have cut corners. Do you have this issue with your H2D?

Which is the case, the top 2 soft screws are on the frame cross beam not on the side panel. The side panel also is secured on that cross beam behind the fan. This screw might be the culprit as it may constrain the panel which would expand more evenly otherwise

I haven’t noticed that YET, but will keep an eye on it. I have mainly printed ABS. As to your cutting corners, there are two thing that could have been done better I have seen so far.

  1. Put the on/off Power switch in the FRONT.
  2. The three tiny screws on the bowden tube junction in the AMS2-Pro should be all you need to remove to get that open to clear a filament clog. I wasn’t expecting to have to remove the whole inner guts and the rear motor. (Which I was not even aware of its existence in the first place.) That also explains why I couldn’t push a broken piece of filament out, maybe it would have been possible if I had three hands…

The X2D also does this.

But, what does the aux fan even do? All it does is need to be switched off when it causes print quality issues. I don’t really know why it’s even installed in the first place. (Well I know they reason why they likely decided it needed it - rapidly cooling small flat parts - but I am not sure it’s worth the engineerign effort and proudction cost to design it in there)
