I bought this printer to reduce waste from my own printing, and want to do everything I can in order to get as close to zero waste as possible. Which is the reason I want to ask:
Has anyone done any testing to find the optimal prime tower prime volume/ramming length values for different materials? If so, what kind of results have you been getting?
As we know, the default values are rather… um… unconservative? At least when it comes to conserving plastic. Probably conservative in the sense of conserving your prints, though. But I want optimized.
I print in PETG HF mostly with the occasional PLA as support material, and it would be nice to know beforehand what kind of values could be regarded as safe, in regards to getting nozzle pressure back just enough to not have any sort of underextrusion after a hotend swap. Anyone have data they could share on this?
2-5mm³ for everything here, 0 ramming, 0 flushing for 2 material in each nozzle, flushing for AMS changes accordingly needed calibration ( Makerworld has some good color flushing calibrations ) to be safe you could set your filament profile to 10mm³ prime tower volume and 0mm ramming i would say. Sadly the startup routine wastes 4 flushing volumes every time i start a print with the same material as the print before, no clue why, bambu seems to not care. My towers for say single material, dual nozzle is like 1x2cm with rib walls. The color changing you have to calibrate or trust the values baked in the slicers multiplier settings.
Imho this is enough to get pressure on the nozzle chamber or whatever i never believed you need that much and my prints speak for me atleast for themselves.
Also, i think they never considered layerheight on this since 10mm³ at 0.08 layerheight are idk 40mm in head movement while extruding while 10mm³ at 0.2mm layerheight then are like 10mm head movement … but i didnt care enough to actually calibrate this and just set it to 10mm³ and be done … maybe its too much i also did 5mm³ and had no problems whatsoever with any defects in the prints from this ( tower gets dangerously small in terms of stability ), maybe if you start with outer walls you will see something but you usually start to print supports, then infill, inner walls and then outer walls until then your chamber pressure is already where it should be without any tower imho. so maybe you could even try as far as say you know you start the layer in a unseen area you could set it to 0 and completely avoid the wipetower.
This setting is completely isolated to the purge volume just to be clear, this here is solely just the wipe tower affecting settings im talking about.
