H2D Some Installation Thoughts

A few thoughts after spending a few days using the H2D in the U.S.:

  • The power cord is short and probably no more than 18 ga. It’s a standard appliance cord. I replaced it with an 8’ 14ga cord. Didn’t do the maths but the ampacity should be good. The 120V version does use 1500 watts for a few seconds to a few minutes at startup.
  • The machine has good visibility through the top, even with the AMS. My permanent install will be lower than I anticipated as I want to look through the top. My P1S doesn’t have much a view through the top so is mounted at 40".
  • A stubby USB is probably best, as it sticks up and risks damage. Samsung makes a small form factor USB in grey which looks nice.
  • The camera view is not the large upgrade I expected over the P1S. Frame rate is much better.
  • Sleep power consumption is about 20W, which is higher than expected. Is the X1C that high? My P1S is about six watts. I have both machines on an appliance rated smart plug and a surge suppressor. I don’t want the machines internet connected when not printing.

The industrial design and the print quality are excellent. I’m satified.

I replaced the power cord too. The one included is a throw away cord, in my opinion.
