So I’ve been printing for going on 3 years at this point. Resin printing for miniatures to start out, then did an entire 4 sets of Helldivers armour on my P1S before finally upgrading to the Flagship- the H2D. I was really excited for the extra build space, the dual nozzles allowing for support filament, and all the quality of life updates from my old machine. Instead, it’s now been idle for a month, despite being purchased in June.
First it was print quality errors. This is standard, I managed to dial in the settings and I popped for the expensive camera build plate for even better quality.
Then the extruder cooling fan broke. This was a much bigger deal, since disassembling the toolhead seems to take a PhD in tiny wires. 5 hours later I have the replacement fan installed.
Then the filament wrap. The very first print after a week of being offline waiting for parts and being repaired the unit managed to completely envelop the toolhead. Nothing even that complicated- to try and break it in I did a pure PLA print, not even trying to use the dual nozzles. Extremely frustrating. I’ve got PLA into every nook and cranny of that complicated toolhead. Support’s response was to send the exact same extruder fan I had just replaced and a replacement extruder mount and tell me to figure out how to remove the filament.
I’m writing this after trying to replace those parts. Trying to melt away plastic filament from plastic parts does not work. Even being careful as I can be, I just watched a magnet fall from somewhere, I don’t even know what it goes to.
I’m just extremely, extremely frustrated at this point. I had a filament wrap on my P1S and it took 5 minutes of work to fix and one conversation with support. I’m now onto my second straight week of correspondence with support for the H2D, with 1-2 days response time between messages no matter how quickly I respond. How on earth is this supposed to be an upgrade from the other printers?
Something similar happened when I was printing with TPU but it was much more mild than that, it definitely got onto the wires but the detection paused the print before it got as crazy as that. Buy a new hotend heating assembly Hotend Heating Assembly | Bambu Lab US Store . If that doesn’t work, please note that the toolhead for the H2D is HELLA complicated and disassembling it in order to see what’s wrong with it can damage it so easily, ribbon cables, everything is tightly packed, wires basically have no leeway to take them out, BE CAREFUL.
Support actually came through last night and is shipping me a new toolhead! I will update here once I have that installed and the machine calibrated and working again.
Glad they got to you quickly. I could be wrong, but I think the heads getting engulfed by filament is usually caused by the filament not adhering to the build pate.
Woah, a whole new toolhead huh? those things cost 200 bucks, cuz like I said, the H2D toolhead is very complex in all. Nice to hear Bambulabs listening to the tickets often. Plus, by rule of thumb, you should never buy a Bambu printer until it has been out in the market for over 6 months due to the firmware team not being on the same crack the hardware team is on /j
The hardware of the H2D is by far one of the best consumer-grade printers on the market and surpasses other companies models such as Creality’s K2, Prusa’s XL, Snapmaker’s Artisan, and many other flagship printers. And to whoever is upset with a Bambu printer should make tickets like these to help further improve the experimental nature of Bambu’s software.
That’s part of why I was frustrated- it’s an amazing machine, which is why it feels so bad to be sitting idle I’m crossing my fingers and toes really hard the new toolhead works flawlessly once I have it installed and broken in, and the AI detection settings are all going up to High immediately. Another part of the frustration was 2 straight fixes and so much time to still have a broken printer, so the all new toolhead makes me feel a lot more confident about this being an actual solution and not more wasted time. I remember when the H2D came out, folks were complaining that AI flagging false positives, so they were turning it down. I wonder if the aggressiveness of HAL has been tuned a bit by bambu through firmware.
I’ll mark in my calendar to reveal next week ;p but yeah, I tried to follow those instructions, after 20 minutes with a hot air gun and soldering iron I had the magnet fall out of the toolhead and that’s when I called it for the evening and requested the toolhead from support. I had the same issue with my P1S and the instructions got me up and running again, but the filament up between both hotends and into the electronics was above and beyond what the clumping remediation instructions were intended for
Update for anyone interested: Full toolhead replacement and many calibrations later the H2D is back up and running. After the initial pushback from support and a bit of complaining on my part they just sent out replacement parts and offered fixes until the printer was up and running again. Super happy to have my baby back ;-;
Oh, and I have turned all the AI detection settings to High. Apparently Medium doesn’t cut it and I am NOT going through this again. PSA to anyone else who is worried about this happening.
This can be avoided with good plate adhesion. This happens when the items lets go of the plate, and the filament starts to build up on the nozzle.

I have more than 11k hours of printing on Bambu and never had this issue because I use these plates, the adhesion is just too great to be overcome. Also never had a problem with the prime tower falling over.
