H2S and Transparent PTEG

If I use regular PTEG, for a given project, it takes 3 hour 30 minutes. I try to print the same project using Transparent PETG, the print time is 7 Hours, 40 minutes. What gives? When I do the same thing in the X1C or my POS K2 Plus, this does not occur. I cannot see any configuration changes that would cause this. This seems to be with Bambu Studio and the H2S.

Should the other printers slow to half with transparent PTEG? I cannot believe this is normal. I expect transparent PTEG to take a little longer, maybe 25% longer, then regular PETG, but not DOUBLE the time. I don’t know if the HS2 is just very slow with transparent Petg, or if that is a bug with Bambu Studio.

in the preview, check both comparing speed. I am sure the transparent one runs slower and with less fan. It might need to go even slower for more transparency/translucency

What filament do you use and what presets? Bambu, Generic, other brand presets?

If Bambu, Bambu PETG basic has a max volumetric speed of 18mm3/s while PETG translucent is 6mm3/s. That will give the difference in time you experienced.

If should not be very different on the X1C though.

Bambu’s tech support is telling me twice as long is normal; I don’t believe that. They must really have the tuning set slow for transparent.

It took a VERY long time to print a new swimming pool basket in transparent clear PTEG, but the results are outstanding.

I do not fiddle too much with the Bambu pre-sets. The most changes I make at times are to change in-fill density or wall layers and that’s not all the time. Tech support tells me transparent will take twice as long (I do not believe that, but I see that). [ not in so many words, this is after I told them a 3.5 hour print went to 7 hours 45 minutes after changing to translucent ]

Keen to see how that looks! I haven’t printed in clear PETG before.

Still not what I would call clear, it’s nothing you could see-thru or use as a panel display glass. Now what I made with it was a pool filter basket. It looks more white than anything, but then the parts of the basket are fairly thick. I have not tried a real thin print to see if it could be used as a display lens, but I really doubt it.

This is due to the maximum volumetric speed of the two filaments. Whatever you set for speeds under process are maximums, the volumetric flow of the filament is the first “speed limit”.

If you look at the filament profiles that Bambu has setup, PETG Basic has a Max volumetric flow of 18, while PETG Transparent has a max volumetric flow of 6. In terms of maximum speed of hte nozzle moving and extruding filament PETG Basic will move at 214mm/s (Formula (max flow rate / (layer height * line width) while PETG Transparent will move at 71mm/s. Thank you. Yaa that stuff is slow (and I have a lot of it - lol). Makes sense though. I did make a swimming pool filter (if Winter ever goes away from here and it gets warm). It took like 13 hours, but looks real nice.

Now you need to design a pool ladder, start printing now and you should get a week or so with it before it’s time to shut down the pool. :zany_face: …but how awesome would a clear ladder be ?

LOL - funny! I don’t know if a ladder could be finished by September, especially with clear PETG. I have been frustrated with the H2S today and I needed that laugh!
