I’m printing with some 3KG cardboard Polymaker spools on an external dryer box and the H2S consistently complains multiple times during the print the filament is stuck, when it isn’t stuck. I guess there is just too much load of these heavy 3Kg spools. Is there a way to disable this feature or make it much less sensitive.
I’ve seen in the settings window a way to reduce sensitivity or disable some other features like “clumping detection”, “spaghetti detection”, but nothing about stuck filament.
When I use large spools like 2/3/5KG I always use a roller stand with 608 bearings to reduce rolling resistance. If that fails, you can respool the filament onto 1kg spools with something like the Pastamatic.
The spool is in a Cyclopes filament dryer which has rollers on ball bearings. The spool rests using the outer diameter of the cardboard spool on the rollers.
Respooling defeats the purpose of using 3Kg spools in the first place.
Sure would be nice to just disable this feature. I’d rather take my chances with a stuck spool happening once in a year, then false triggers on every print.
The problem is the weight of the spool creating too much drag. Are you running the filament through the buffer? Try positioning it in a way to reduce the force needed to spin it. Also I would try feeding from bottom and top of the spool to see which way has less resistance.
Sorry this doesn’t answer your question, but there are also some filament boosters that reduce the load on the extruder. The infinity flow should do this, there is a cheaper one on amazon that works by sensing the tubing tension, and I’ve seen a few others. The infinity flow can also take 2 3kg rolls.
Yup, the filament is running through the top orange buffer. It’s carbon nylon so that adds to the friction, but I use the exact same setup with the P1S and thousands of hours of printing, never had a stuck filament error.
Bambu Lab have just set the torque threshold on the extruder too low for detecting filament stuck.
Irony is I have an automatic espresso machine with the same problem. They monitor the torque on the grinder motor to detect if the hopper is out of coffee beans. Of coarse it is set too low and constantly throws a false empty hopper error. After a year of wasting coffee, I added a dummy resistor on the grinder motor to pull more current and keep the monitored torque above the threshold.
This is an easy firmware fix for Bambu Labs by adding a setting to allow use to disable this feature like they have done with the AI detection features.
i’m having a massive amount of these errors as well. but instead, i’m just trying to print with bambu PLA off the external filament holder.
it seems the best ‘fix’ so far is for me to babysit the printer and keep manually unspooling the filament so there’s as little resistance as possible in the feed.
i’ve only printed a poop chute(lots of errors), ‘replacement’ reel holder adapter(zero errors), and now 3 days of troubleshooting, i’m trying to get a poop chute cup printed, and got tired of trying to do anything else between the every 2 minutes between filament pause errors.
Are all your issues with the same spool of filament? Have you tried a different spool? If the end of the filament ever loops under itself it will cause issues as the filament will constantly bind.
do you have more details on the cheaper versions on amazon? i can’t find much on ‘filament boosters’ other being filament reloaders. i don’t want/need a reloader as i do just the powered unrolling based on tubing tension.
It’s this (not recommending, just pointing it out). I expect there are other models. An infinity flow would work, and I think there is a booster on the SV08 Max that would work.
The way this one works it needs some loose tubing on the output side, it works on tension of the tubing (when I was playing with it seemed to work well, but it took me a while to figure out the mechanism).
i’ve made sure the roll is entirely loose. it’s never overlapped, and many times, i never even need to touch the filament to restart the print. i just need to acknowledge the error on the main panel, allow it to purge, verify it’s flowing again on the main panel, and it’s good to go for another 1-4 minutes.
as far as i can tell(sitting here next to my printer now) as soon as the filament feeder needs to pull the spool weight, it seems to start to generate errors. almost like the feeder wheel tension isn’t great enough to overcome the friction from the external spool holder.
i haven’t tried any other spools yet, but for the past 45 minutes, just pre-unrolling the spool has resulted in zero errors. it’s the longest the printer has ever gone without an error so far…
so far, in my frantic googling, i’m seeing others reporting a similar error, with some saying they get repeatable errors if the print head is within the front 40mm of the enclosure. almost like the feed tubes are being stretched incorrectly.
i’ve tried running left and right nozzles, with equal errors for both sides until this recent “try and see” development of manually unloading the spool to reduce the drag on the filament drive unit
i haven’t submitted a ticket, as i don’t feel i’ve fully understood what the underlying issue is. i don’t like asking for a fix to something without a clear failure mode.
there do appear to be a lot of similar issues when i search for “h2d filament pausing” outside of this forum though. many of them are at least 2-4 months old, with no clear resolution.
