Head covered filament,

I am new. A couple days under my belt. This maybe after the firmware? Not sure. But I have had 3 stalls, with a message telling me there is filament covering nozzle/bed is not seated properly. Twice there was a 1/4 length of filament hanging from nozzle parked all the way to the right. Which I knocked off. All three times I hit continue and it went on its merry little way.
It seems to do it completing the base layer and not after.
Any suggestions?

Hi. I’m fairly inexperienced myself, but I would like to invite you try tightening a few screws.

On the heat bed, under the plate, there is four screws. I had tightened mine when i was experiencing some first layer adhesion problems, and it helped that. I hope that would address the “bed not seated properly” part for you. Easy fix, turn four screws that are very easy to get at.

The next thing i’d advise is get comfy with messing with that actual hot end. I bought several nozzles at different widths. Get really nice detail with the 2 mm nozzle, but it has downsides… Anyway! You can pop your nozzle out and there are three screws. Loosen them and you can pull that “unit” out and find more screws on the unit. From there, tighten and screw back together.

Now, a lot people are going to suggest something along the lines of “DRY YOUR FILAMENT,” and they do mean well. It makes a difference, trust me. Buy legit filament dryer, nothing expensive, but dont settle for a $20 easy bake oven… it pays itself off in how much material you wont waste!
I mention this because majority of times you have “oozing” or extra stuff extruded, it pretty much comes down your PLA is runny with the extra water content.
Now, I notice a lot of “small threads” of filament coming off my noozle between jobs, but it never really affected operations… No stopage and i get good quality, but something there is triggering your “clump detection” I think.
I see my unit run away to corner a lot, but never stops…

SO, my theory, which is novice… Your bed is a little off, not level and maybe curved because the screws arent “evenly tightened.” Your nozzle is happily dumping filament until it passes over a curve that is too low, the goop doesnt reach the floor quickly enough or something, and stays with your nozzle and get “Dragged away” from where it should have been poured, and then triggers clump detection, which “retreats” the unit to that back right corner off stage…

Tightening things up should “flatten” your hotplate bed, and get the nozzle to a more precise distance away from the plate. Imagine during the leveling test, that bit was loose, could be telling the unit the bed is a “different height” then reality, and it all goes to ■■■■ when its expecting floor to be where floor is not…

Still having problems, scrub the nozzle with metal wool a little.

Best of luck. Keep asking questions. This, like anything else, is a learning experience and requires practice, training, some blood, sweat and tears if you want to be good at it.

Your not just learning how to 3d print. You will probably eventually learn some mechanics, thermodynamics, and AutoCAD like software. Download blender, buy a fresh roll of filament, and make some darn mistakes!

Still failed a couple more times since.

I am wondering if my turning off auto filament calibration, but I am only using PLA TH+ so far for eveything. I figured if it dosent change, as in type or color I would not need to run it every time.

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a solution involving drying filament or washing the plate with dish soap approaches one.

Had u already clean the cam’s lenses with cotton and alcohol
