I’ve tried to avoid questions and answered most of my research with AI and google, but I need to come here for real wisdom, so please forgive me… It’s not a major issue, I just want to understand better.
Dreamed of the H2C as it ticks much of my geekyness, but long chats with AI convinced me it is OTT for me and my children. I hope the P2S was the right choice, bit worried by some forum posts…
Anyway… only had a second hand ender3 before and it never worked properly despite lots of part changes etc (it had sat in a dusty garage for years before we got it).
My P2S+AMS2 combo wont ship for another couple weeks, but I’ve been trying to look into 3d modeling and slicing to understand, but I am confused.
Please don’t judge my tinkercad attempt too harshly (it’s a holder for 3 glass straws).
My questions are these. When I added 3 colours to the top to indicate which coloured straws went where, the slicer added in a huge black tower next to the model with the colours also on the top of that as a purge tower. It also said there needed to be 32 colours changes.

Why can’t it just change to yellow once, do the yellow layers, then change to blue do the blue etc. I know there are multple layers, but in a model this basic it could easily do one at a time and save lots of purging and changes.

Why does it need to build another huge tower in black next to itself? It is essneitally making two towers. Can’t it do the colour change purges at base level? My son thinks this might be to stop the parts of the printer hitting the main build, which would make sense in a complicated projected taking up a lot of the build plate, but this is not, there would easily be space for it to go down and purge low down instead of having to build such a tall waste of black filament. Interesting I note it still does the same if I lie and say I own a H2C.
To this end, and top tips to a complete newbie that probably will have no idea if his printer is actually any good or not, would be greatly appreciated. Plus and first prints etc. I have 12 filiments already here or on there way. Mostly PLA-basic, a few TPU to try and make rubber ducks.
