Help printing Trex ribs

Hi, I have problems printing the ribs of this Trex,should not need support but at the top is really moving a lot during print.
I am printing with PLA matt, the last part very slow around 50mms, but the last part go crazy and ruin everything. Printing with 0.08 layer
Any suggestion ?

Can it not be printed on its side?

Is it an option to place an manual support structure only for the last part?

Printed on the side the quality is not so good, I tried.

Manual support structure ? You mean paint a support only on the last part ? Mhhh that is an idea, but never did supports with 0.08 layers and i have fear that is complicate to remove. I tried also 4 wall loop but doesn’t help

Think, it‘s no prob on 0.08 layers, possibly a little rework, sanding and polishing.

Try manual tree supports mid-way up on the vertical part. Should help stabilize the rib and, with Support x-y distance set to 0.02mm, will not actually attach to the rib.

Further support might still be needed higher up, to prevent motion rather than to hold up.

Thank you, I will try asap, once resolved this situation. Suddenly Orca start to put support where there should no need. I don’t know why

Looks like 5he support angle to me. Have you tried painting on supports yet? That gives you much better control.

Well, a slim tree with a large z-distance will not be so good in stabilization.

There are 3 approaches I’d suggest for your consideration:

  1. Play a bit more with the tree support. Mainly at 1/2 and 2/3 of the part height, with a lower z and xy clearance. There’ll probably still be some wobble. Make sure the filament is dry, you use a non-crossing infill and slow down for the upper half with a modifier.
  2. Use primitive cylinders and cones to construct 6 cut-away pillars. 3 each at 1/2 and 1/3 part height for part stabilization. An interface of 0,2mm is easy to remove with a cutter while giving strong support.
  3. In the printer settings in Studio, you can lower the minimum layer height for adaptive layers below 0,08mm. 0,04 is usually not a problem. Below that, you’ll have trouble noticing the layer lines. Then lay the part flat. Check the flow preview for min flow. 0.01 is a no go but 0.03 can still work. I consider 0.04 safe on my X1 with PLA.

Used solution one, starting with some batches of the small ribs. Until now i did 5 and is ok, now i am printing the medium ones.
