I have spent 3 days trying to figure this and have failed, so I hope someone can point me at some videos to help me.
I am just learning the whole process with a new A1 Combo, filaments are limited at present, but I have been trying to print a simple thing which is a bit of raised text in yellow (2mm) on top of a filleted block in blue (6mm tall).
Having read a few posts, not sure if on here or another forum I have tried different bodies for the block and text and then tried stacking them in studio, one body for everything, with different colours which gets me lots of unconnected lines, and one .stl file that contains two bodies. All have failed so I think I have got the wrong idea in my mind. The image in Freecad always looks fine with no errors.
So not asking anyone to do the work for me, but if you can point me to videos which explain the method in a clear and concise way I would appreciate it. I am going through a set of FreeCad 1.1.1 videos at present on Youtube, which my searches has led me to, but they do not answer what Studio requires.
I am new and of an age, so perhaps the grey matter is slower and finding some of this harder than normal.
It was more a case of doing all the model including text within FreeCad so that Bambu Studio recognises it and I can print the lettering in a different colour, but if it is a way to do it then I will study it and have a play. Not sure if I need to be Internet connected as I am basically using the SD card at present, but I will go through the article in the wiki.
To add to @MZip & @ElektroQuark guidance, the merge/assemble tool is important to understand how Studio can import files. It usually asks for inclusion as either individual objects or an assembly.
As you are progressing, youâll probably also want to look at different object types in studios. In particular flush text can benefit from being changed to a modifier.
They can also be very useful for all kinds of shenannigans
Thanks all for your comments, I think it will take me a little while to comprehend everything, but I guess it is just a learning process.
I have spent the past few hours updating a Linux Laptop I have as I will be away from the printer for a good part of the following week, Freecad and Bambu Studio are installed as apps in Ubuntu so at least in the evenings I can try out these things and generally have a play.
That is what I was trying to do, I think the post I saw was on a Reddit thread? But I must have got it all wrong, it looked fine in Freecad, but when imported as a stl file in Studio, both the block and text was set on the PEI plate with the text inside the block and I could not move the text on to the top of the block.
This happens when Studio imports the individual stlâs as individual objects. It should import as an assembly if you choose the other option when loading the file into Studio.
I again will show myself as being dumb here. What is meant when you say âchoose the other optionâ

When I import the .stl into Studio, I only see one option and that is :- Import 3MF/STL/STEP etc. Under that is Import Configs which I have not tried. This is I guess why I was hoping to discover a Youtube video on this subject.
I have managed to do a simple print using the Text function in Studio as mentioned at the beginning by MZip, so for now I have a method.
Itâs a Valve type medium wave broadcast unit so I can send music to my old valve radios I collect, itâs only milli-watts so only has a range of around 10 feet.
That is very cool! Nice work too! Valves. They are so cool. Iâm actually trying to get a Philco 40-81 portable running again for a friend of mine. It was his grandfatherâs. 4-tuber. Replaced the caps and the hardened wiring that was shorting to the spring shields on the way to top terminals but spotted tiny cracks in some resistors. Hoping itâs just surface cracks. But love the transmitter concept!
Since you are building a Linux system, just an FYI if you donât already know, Blender is used by a number of people here to design with and itâs available for Linux.

I found some other places online with repair hints, making an A/B voltage battery, and pdfs of the original Philco schematic, parts list, and alignment instructions/test voltages. Thereâs magic in those tubes but the rest of the circuit stuff is pretty simple. Fingers crossed the tubes are still good. They are getting expensive to get good ones now and Iâm not betting they arenât gassy. Cheers!
Choosing âNoâ leads to Studio importing the stlâs as individual objects, all placed directly on the plate. Choosing âYesâ leads to import as an assembly, maintaining relative positions. Note that the screenshot is a bit dated though. It is from the wiki.
The global â object toggle next to the process settings is quite useful as it shows the object tree you are familiar with CAD. It is much more basic though (only a single level). âPart level parametersâ shows it in the wiki:
Thanks for the response, I do not get that option to load files as multiple parts, so I need to figure something else as well, perhaps I am doing it wrong from within FreeCad.
I will be away now from the printer but should have forum access via my laptop this evening at some point and I will look through your other comments.
I am rather rusty re FreeCAD as I moved first to OnShape and now to the Maker version of SolidWorks.
But if you can save 2 stlâs from FreeCAD, you can import them jointly or seperately into Studio, Merge and then position them.
Note that the pop-up has changed somewhat since the screenshot was taken for the wiki. The wording may be a bit confusing nowadays.
In Studio you can import just one stl file, or you can select multiple stl files. Itâs when you select multiple files for importing that you then get the dialog to import them as separate things or as parts of an assembly.
As Eno said, when importing a single part or multiple parts that arenât part of an assembly, Studio puts the part(s) in the center of the build plate, but when importing multiple parts as an assembly, it maintains the individual part positions relative to each other. All it takes to get that dialog is selecting multiple parts to import at the same time.
Itâs confusing until you get the hang of it but once you do, it will be 2nd nature.
That last bit made it that bit clearer for me, so last night I did the same again in FreeCad, one body just the base and one body the text. I then imported them both into Studio and I got the pop up message, said âYesâ and it imported everything with the text at the correct height. Down to objects set the filaments colours and then had it slice the plate and it did that with out any errors. So although I can not try the print for a while it looks as though it should work fine.
