Help! stuck filament

I upgraded from the x1c to the h2d a couple of weeks ago, and it’s worked like a dream until tonight! I must have put a rubbishy pla filament into the AMS, it snapped. I followed a Youtube video to clear the broken filament out the AMS and it’s fine now, and the ptfe tube is clear all the way to the printer. The problem is there is still a broken piece of filament between the buffer and the toolhead, I tried pushing a piece of filament from either side to clear it out, but it won’t move either way, as if it’s clamped in place somehow. I have no idea how to get it out (I’m pretty new to 3d printing, so I’m no expert), I attached a photo to make it clear what I mean. Thanks for any help.

Pull out the tube from the buffer and tool head. Then you can use another strand to push it out if you cant get your fingers on it.

A bit finicky, but I managed it ok and it’s back to working normally :grinning:

unfortunately I’ve had to pull the buffer assembly out of the printer 3 times so far to fish out bits of pla, all because i had a super brittle pla that kept finding creative ways to jam up in the buffer.

Overall it’s not too difficult, more annoying than anything else. The wiki instructions are pretty easy to follow for if/when you need to.

Should probably dry it………

It happened to me about six times when I had a defective batch of ASA Aero that became extremely brittle right from the start of the print. On one occasion, the AMS HT even pushed the broken piece all the way to the toolhead and continued printing as if nothing had happened.

But you were using PLA, right? PLA becomes brittle both when it absorbs too much moisture and when it is overdried. If the brittleness comes from overdrying, the filament is permanently damaged and there is no recovery. I have a spool of pink PLA that behaves exactly like that and has done so since the day I received it. Bambu Lab refused to replace it, claiming it was my fault.

So keep in mind to apply just enough heat and drying time. Too much will damage the filament.

I bought myself a dryer cheap on amazon, it’s PLA I use all the time, I only used the dryer a couple of times, it is set to 8 hours is that ok? or do I need to change the drying time on it?

Drying time depends on the initial moisture level, but 8 hours is a reasonable benchmark. Just avoid leaving it to dry continuously.

To be absolutely certain it’s dry, you need to measure the weight before and after drying.
