Help with a print

It’s probably because there isn’t enough of your model actually in contact with the build plate to generate the brim.

Have you tried just manually adding a “brim” it with a privative? (Right click/Add part/Disc)

Also changing the orientation by 90 degrees as shown in the picture should help avoid the bed movement from dislodging the print.

im not 100% but if you have supports for build plate only it maybe preventing the brims coverage

This will always fail. I would suggest stopping.

I found the same model and downloaded it - they did NOT solid shape it! there are a zillion tiny squares and detail they never merged - so if you try to slice and then separate it will destroy the model.

I will try to work on a slice later today for this

You will need to first “make solid” or else the slicer goes mad when trying to cut it, then cut off the tail and head part, flip the orientation and brim print the 4 or 5 cut pieces.

I have a mini as well, so once I slice you should be able to just hit print and solve this headache haha.

If someone gets to this first the above is pretty much the only way to solve this on THIS model - it’s too fine to print in place on the bed slingers it will clip the edge and knock the print halfway! It really needs to be cut and glued sadly.

@user_2548955667 - you might want to wait until I can print one successfully I just sent the job to the printer now, will be finished at 3am when I’m sleeping so tomorrow! I’ll let you know how it went haha

I’ve attached it just in case, the model was HORRIBLE.

Whoever made this had the best intentions I’m sure for details but they never merged any of their nodes so it had well over 3 million triangles nothing joined, was full of hollow holes creating invalid edges and internal supports really bad. The model crashed my 3d builder, crashed meshmixer, and jammed blender…nice…

I “raw” sliced it into chunks then was finally able to semi-fix the edges, sliced with mega detail for you (in case this does work) and we shall see!

I took up the challenge as if a kid walked in off the street and asked my shop to print - I would have to print it eh? Everything is a learning experience but the goal is -to print- in the end. Sometimes Models are just broken and impossible, but I’ll give it a go!

EDIT: So far so good and hour in, seems stuck like a scared child to the pei plate haha. I’ll update in the morning!

How in hell did you get the brims to show up!!! when i try no brim would show up on the bambu app at all! They would on all my other mini’s but not on this ship!

i thought…hey ill try to print it. Sadly im using bambu matte pla and when i try to change it to that filament the entire modle vanishes off my program :frowning: Know of a fix?

As for the model above, thats crazy how bad it was :frowning: maybe that was what was causing all my fails on my printer. Thanks for looking into this for me.

OH MY GOD!!! I hope you didn’t print!!!

This is why you don’t do things tired and half asleep! I had forgotten the back end of the ship off to the side of the plate and it never sliced it WOW facepalm.

Oh, and I had forgotten my ESUN pla+ profile as well I apologize. I use pla+ (ESUN here but any brand) exclusively as normal pla is pointless and costs 1$ less…pla+ is better by leaps and bounds, you do not have to worry about supports or overhangs it takes them all like a champ etc… Depending on your area might want to make the switch too. Using matte or regular pla on this complicated broken model however…phew…I’m not sure…so!

I resliced for you in GEN PLA - just put your matte on the printer and leave everything. do not touch the settings it will print fine with general pla using matte any brand. Actually this is a very good way to print matte anything fyi! the fan at 100% helps the overhangs a lot with matte.
But Just in case you happen to have a “real” bambu matte roll, I attached a slice of that as well as it takes 2 seconds. If you have any off brand use the general pla one.

But know that the model is rough…there are tons of errors and empty holes inside of it, so when the slicer cuts it creates “thin” broken patches of walls. (use arcane instead of classic to help this) the brims were done by clicking on the object tab, selecting the thin parts, last tab, brim auto > outer → 12 in this case as they are very thin and change the gap to 0.04 so it leaves NO space and it welds your brim to the piece. It’s easy to remove anyways so why not do this when you know it’s thin and the nozzle will clip…also to solve the clipping you change the zhop to 0.06 or 0.08 for super safe jumping. Turning off the reduce infill retracting prevents infill nozzle scraps as well. For infill there are 5 types that will not “scrape” gyroid is one and the strongest so for sleeping safe printing it’s best to use that as the nozzle will never cross over it’s own path with gyroid

To fix this all this on the model here for you this morning with my coffee - I just made it a bit bigger haha, then enlarging makes all the walls separate from the hollow gaps and the detect thin walls and archane take care of the rest.

I got ghosting on this print during the night so I need to do an entire maintenance cycle on the mini here before restarting this print. I might only get around to printing this overnight BUT it should work this time (with all the pieces doh!)

EDIT TO REMOVE CLUTTER - UPLOADS FAILED> see below link!

@user_2548955667

Here - https://makerworld.com/en/models/1181549-duderstadt-class-starship-from-star-trek-picard#profileId-1191849

Just have it load into your studio - pick MATTE - send it to the printer (so it keeps a copy) and hit print! fingers crossed i’ll do this one overnight. i’m off to do maintenance on my mini haha

Dumb forum won’t let me upload anything all of a sudden! sorry for the multiple replies!

@user_2548955667 - dude go to your profile and pick a username omg XD

Here we go - 2nd slower profile that was uploaded and the bambu matte selected, sent from the app and success. Justmaker matte navy filament brand was on the machine (set to bambu matte on machine as well)

The errors and stuff are part because the model is horrific and I couldn’t be bothered trying to tune a .08 super fine profile taking 5000000 hours for this when the bed moves so fast and the details are so fine. Maybe if it was better designed but ugh not for the 04 nozzle we have. Maybe an 02 but phew man…I think yo should leave this one alone haha, find another ship!
