I’m having a tough time positioning any part of an object accurately. The outline of the object obscures its exact position as it’s moved. There must be a setting that control the thickness of the outline or maybe even remove it altogether but for the life of me I cannot find it. Does such setting exist? If not, how do the more experienced makers accurately position their objects?
Right now I move the object using the moving arrows until I can no longer determine its actual position behind the outline, de-select it to remove the outline, see where it’s positioned, re-select, move it blindly now, just a little, de-select again, blah, blah, blah and so on. If I need more precise positioning, I find myself making decimal adjustments which becomes ridiculous considering that I have one of the best 3D printers in the market and I have to play with “.2, .3, .5, oops… .4, too much… try .35, etc, etc.”
Any nudge or a shove toward a solution would be greatly appreciated.
You are talking about multi-part objects i guess? The trick here is to align them already in CAD and import them together, e.g. in the import dialogue, select them all and important then at once. Then BambuStudio allows you to treat them as a sinlge object, maintaining alignment.
Or even better: create a single multi-part step file.
I think the slicer is not the right place for perfect alignment. Your CAD has all the tools for perfect alignment.
I concur, the less modelling done in Studio, the better. It’s a slicer and will never have all the features of actual CAD/CAM software. Wait until you start modifying parts in CAD and then need to re-import them… quite likely needing to re-position things again each time – that gets old really quick.
For aligning edges or centers there’s the context menu’s “Align/Distribute” tools, which can definitely be helpful. But for freeform alignment what you described is as good as it gets.
Just to add, mesh formats (STL/3MF/OBJ) can also have multiple parts/bodies in them, if you prefer to do your mesh conversion in CAD or some other tool (which I do).
And no, there’s no way to change the silly thick white outline in the 3D view. I’ve also been trying for months to get a better camera manipulation system accepted into the code base, but I guess no one at BL thinks this is a priority.
