I have a text on the wall printer with another filament. The slicer causes the holes and makes the tall support. Is there any way to tell slicer to fill the would-be hole with any (or selected) filament?
Red arrow points to missing filament in the layer.
The worst thing here is that this text goes though whole part, thus there will simply be a small hole in it.
I have tried different settings in slicer - it always makes the support independent on seam setting I tried or support settings. I see AI proposes to dig into filament profile, but I think it is too deep and too advanced for such task. What slicer must do is to decrease thickness of the last white layer and then print black above it with globally set layer thickness. There must be no ugly artefact with such precision.
I may also try modifiers (e.g. change layer thickness around this location) but it also seems to be an overkill.
Someone will probably say to use a support blocker in this area, and it might look OK, but it may still look a bit odd for the reason I’ll explain.
The problem comes from how you’ve modeled your text in the part, plus how the slicer is fitting the print to the text.
Because your layer height is a fixed value, i.e. 0.2mm, but that part of the white text doesn’t end at a whole multiple of 0.2mm, say it ends at a height of 10.1mm, there is a gap where the slicer is saying “well I can’t do white here because halfway through that white is supposed to be black” - so it does nothing there.
What you should do in the model is to model your text as an absolutely minimum depth cut into the surrounding surface. I will typically cut my text 0.001 into the surrounding surface, and crucially, export the part as a single body.
Then, in Bambu Studio, use the paint tool and “same surface” to paint the text you’ve cut into the surface. Studio will interpret the boundaries properly and shouldn’t introduce “nothing” in those areas.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to mess with your model, you can add in a layer height change to do, say, a 0.1mm tall layer at the top of that text just so it reaches the actual top of the text, and then another layer height change that goes back to 0.2mm for the remaining layers.
Thanks! I think I have found simpler, but less reliable way to deal with it (not guaranteed to fix it). Just play with layer height. I had 0.28 (maximal I was allowed with nozzle 0.4), changing the height to 0.24 produced clean walls without support. Examination of sliced model seem ok but anyway needs printing to prove no holes or other defects.
Yes, that can also work, but depending on how much text you have, it may be easier or harder to find a “perfect” value that doesn’t cause the same issue at the tops or bottoms of other letters.
Agreed, I put 0.2 mm and it constructed the nightmare thus 0,24 was a great luck.
May I ask unrelated question here please. I have a problem with first layer (never had it before), and have no idea what I have changed and why it happens.
It’s because the bottom of your part isn’t perfectly flat, and you’ve selected a face for your “bottom” that is resulting in much of the part not being captured in the first layer.
Right, the far part is that one. The problem with that part that it stands on “legs” and will need additional support and this first layer support IMHO will make things even worse in terms of total adhesion.
The closer parts are flat. Slicer unable to apply different rules to parts?
How can I disable this first layer as support and have everything built on plate and all support being built around the parts if needed?
Can you post your .3mf file? Or at least a good screenshot of your parts before slicing?
Do you perhaps have a raft turned on?
You can have separate settings for each object to an extent, but things like independent layer heights can only happen if you have print by object enabled, which has it’s own drawbacks.
I don’t see how those two front parts can be floating if not for a raft, unless they’re just not properly placed down on the build plate.
Absolutely. You are correct, for some reason I had raft set to 1. Figured it out by comparing files not generating this layer and this one. Turned off (set to 0) and problem solved. Thanks!
