I am using an X1 carbon that kept saying intermittently that homing failed. This is the second time I have had this problem occurring. The first time it was caused by a piece of “poop” dropping onto the top of the rear lead screw. So when it started happening again i checked and found no fault the failing kept occurring though. I then found that the pillar bearing on the right front was protruding from the housing, I realized that the pillar bush recess in the floor of the printer was filling with scraps of filament so pushing the pillar bearing up when the bed was near bottom. Problem solved
