My 0.4mm HF nozzle failed (left side, not a lot of wear on it) and damaged my new Kdavi plate in the process, the tip dug all the way to the steel core. Not the first failure of this kind on the forums and I also had a similar failure on an X1 nozzle previously but the plate was spared that time. I know the nozzle will be replaced due to the manufacturing defect but Im curious to see how support handles my damaged plate, I will keep you guys posted.
The latest firmware for both the X1 Carbon and H2D comes with “features” that will damage the plate. I reached out to support, but apparently their solution was for me to film myself destroying yet another plate — because nothing says “problem-solving” quite like making it worse on camera. On my X1 Carbon, that delightful bug disappeared in the BETA, only to make a triumphant return in the release version. I’m not sure what kind of monkeys are writing their code, but they definitely seem to be missing a proper CVS.
To be honest, I think they’ve recently lost some key people in software development (firmware and Bambu Studio), because the quality of releases — and of the software in general — has noticeably worsened.
As I’ve already said in several forum threads, their software quality is not on par with their hardware; they’re always playing catch-up.
It’s a shame, because it’s precisely the HW-FW-SW ecosystem that makes Bambu worth spending €1,000 for an X1C instead of €400 for a Centauri.
They’ve focused more workforce and effort on locking down the software under the pretext of security, leaving behind far more important aspects for the users… If I were their CEO, I’d be firing some people — maybe even myself.
Its very interesting to know if the printer was calibrated exactly with this nozzle plate setup and if not, the heatbed calibration was turned from automatic to on in the slizer settings.
I always keep this setting on to avoid any circumstances like this and it never happend to me.
Another possible reason could be a very soft plate surface, were the forcemeters in the heatbed are to less sensitive for. So it could come to a wrong calibration.
I have a video recording of the failure. Its got nothing to do with calibration, just the faulty hot end. The tip failed while printing the second layer and the high force on the ejecting tip scratches the surface, very simple.

The tip split in half while printing and instead of acting like a bullet, denting a spot, it dragged? Either way that sucks, I just installed 2 HF nozzles, we’ll see what happens.
Yes, because the plate was there to stop it flying out, it dragged along the plate for a while before it finally overcame the pressure of the bed springs.
And just to clarify, im not here for sympathy (although I appreciate it) and not to rip on bambu. I love my H2D and all the other bambu printers I owned before, they have earned my confidence with innovations and reliability over more then 10k hours of printings… I am just curious how support will handle my plate, since its aftermarket.
Update: support got back to me very fast (24 hours) and replaced the defective items, they arrived today. It was a pleasure to deal with them, very efficient and pleasant. Cant ask for anything more. ![]()
What about the plate, since it was from a 3rd party?
They sent me a smooth PEI plate to compensate for its destruction. I was the one that suggested it, so overall im happy with the outcome.
