Im facing a dysfunction with my p1s printer; after about 1h30 min working, printer stops while displaying a window with hotend temp failure. The hotend was at 253°C decreasing at 90° C and going directly in left back corner above garbage box. Impossible to restart printing. The plate remains at 70° C but the hotend refuses to heat more than 248° C and temp decreases immediately, and stops the printing. Im using PETG and usually I do not face any prob with those temp? Any solution?

There are a few possibilties. These are listed in ease of performing.
- A loose connector in the print head. Have you opened the print head recently for maintenance, etc? The connector are easy to knock out of position or not connect properly.
- Heater or thermistor issue on the hot end. If you have a spare hot end (you should keep one handy) it is a quick replacement.
- Micro SD card failing. You can try to replace the Micro SD card. Mine did something similar when it failed. I noticed it taking longer to boot up when turning on and then it would randomly stop printing.
- Try performing a factory reset on the printer.
thanks for your answer. On my side, I could notice that the failure always come when printing slice Nbr 16 whatever the object to be printed is; small or large. My first deduction is a dysfunction when Studio is computing the Gcode, due to external factors or not.
Possible dysfunction due to printing parameters or to bad STL file which cd integrate a bug ??
I did change hot end, ceramic heater, thermistor, hot end fan. Problem remains the same.
I thought possible bug in last Bambu Studio version when uploading it, but I did upload very last version 2 - 3 - 1 -51 and problem is still there.
Now , really no idea whats going on ? ![]()

Factory reset sounds like a good idea. Its under the “wrench” icon in the p1s LCD menu
I also agree w/ blchandl2 that if you have a spare hotend, this is the moment to use it. You need to know if your thermister and heater core (the wired bits on the hotend) are good.
One other possibility is the thermal paste has degraded on your current hotend’s heater - wipe it down and reapply, try again.

First action has been to change hotend, ceramic heater, thermistor hotend fan; I have enough new spare parts to do that, but nothing changed after this maintenance.
I will see to do a factory reset, probably tomorrow. I m in France and its 7 pm

If you are suspicious of the slicing / gcode, you can instead just command the nozzle to 260 from the pad of the device - and see what happens. If something is wrong with heater/thermister/etc it will show here too, but you’ll be able to poke at it since it won’t be printing.

I did try yesterday to have nozzle warming to 255 using the printer screen; its coming to the requested temp without problem.
Important point up to me, I do notice, is that I can print (with PETG) with hotend at 252 or 253 °C
until reaching slice 15. When starting to print slice 16, whatever the objet can be, nozzle temp immediately decrease from 253 to 244 and the hotend goes to back left corner still decreasing temp to 90°C ( security process) Because that, I think hotend or nozzle are not concerned directly. Before printing all the check process ( nozzle cleaning, plate control…) is going well, with the various temp changes, then, hotend goes to requested temp and stay,at 253° C for printing if requested, fans are working.
The dysfunction is ALWAYS starting at slice 16 of the printing process, this is why I think, a wrong Gcode instruction can be the cause.
Please replace slice with layer for better understanding.
Try looking in the g-code at layer 16 for “m104 S###”. Where the ### is the desired temperature. That would tell you it being commanded to change temperature.
Right; this is the research I have done , M104 as well as M 109, but did not notice anything abnormal. Those two instructions regarding temp are not present in gcode layer 14,15,16,17
Gcode is probably not responsible with dysfunction ??
I will do a factory reset tomorrow, do a check print and also reload an old version of Bambou studio, redo another print.
I cannot determinate if the problem is on my computer, generated by the slicer, the STL file, or whatever, or if its coming from the printer.
If unable to solve by myself, I will write a ticket to Bambou Lab maintenance, explaining what’s going on.
It does not appear to be commanded to change. You action plan sounds good.

I did yesterday restart printer after a Factory reset. Problem remains the same, and after printing about 30min, reaching layer 16 printer stopped.Printing head went to rear left back corner above garbage, hotend temp decreasing from 253 to 90 °C. Once again, whatever the objet to be printed can be, machine stops when reaching layer 16.
I will write a ticket failure to maintenance, explaining in details whats going on

One other g-code to look for is ‘M0’ which is an indefinite pause.

Following the issue of print interruption at the beginning of layer 16, I contacted Bambou Lab support via a technical ticket. After several exchanges and a review of the G-code, I was strongly advised to reposition the silicone cap on the nozzle.
After following this advice, the nozzle temperature remained stable and all subsequent prints completed correctly.
For the two years I’ve been printing with the Bambou Lab P1S, I had never used the silicone cap on the nozzle, and all my prints had been successful. It’s true that, with the cap correctly positioned, the nozzle temperature remains perfectly stable and only fluctuates by a maximum of 1°C.
The problem was solved with a simple silicone cap.
This is worth noting, and thank you for your attention to my issue.
Thanks for the update. Hard to believe it is that sensitive. I assumed it was there to prevent buildup on the hotend.
Silicone socks are insulators first, prophylaxis second. We want this little centimeter to be very hot, and this centimeter to be very cold, you need insulators.
