First time caller, long time lurker, writing here as a last resort before I go full Office Space on my new P1S. I got it 3 weeks ago, and my first 2 prints were fine. Since then, I’ve had about 10 failures and 2 successes (mostly short broad objects). Now I can’t seem to print anything but unadhered spaghetti.
Here’s what I’m working with and what I’ve done to try and fix it:
Printer: P1S w/ AMS and PEI bed
AMS Humidity: B moving to A
Ambient Temp: Currently 65 in the garage, but have tried several prints at 72+
Filament: eSun basic PLA
Bed temp: Have tried between 55 and 67
Nozzle temp: 220
Layer and 1st layer height: .2
Infill density: 15%, pattern: gyroid
Initial layer speed: 20mm/s
Initial layer infil 105mm/s
Fans: auto 100% max, Aux fan 50%
What I’ve tried
Since about a dozen folks will say it, I’ll start by saying I cleaned my print bed with hot water and Dawn. I cleaned it with a clean brush. I cleaned it with gloves. I’ve washed it so… many… times…
Hair spray
800 grit sandpaper, then 600 grit, then 600 grit coated with hair spray after. (Washed each time, etc.)
I raised my bed temp: Up to about 67c
I raised the room temp (it’s in my garage), brought it up to about 80.
Changed filament
Dried filament
Printed one of those bed cleaner dealies (I’m desperate).
I know there are things that I can still try, like rafting, glue, and steel wool. Should all this be required with a brand-new printer?
I’m inclined to think it might be a slicer issue. Can anyone look at all this and identify any glaring issues? 3mf file and photographic hall of horror attached.
If it were me, the next thing I’d check is the filament calibration. Flow and PA/K can make a bigger difference than most expect, especially on a printer that’s otherwise behaving normally.
As a separate note, since the printer is in the garage, I’d also make sure the filament is properly dried. PLA absorbs moisture faster in cooler, humid spaces, and even a small amount can cause poor first-layer adhesion.
